An Introduction… Boston Motor Werks in Belmont, MA
Hello everyone! I am writing to introduce our shop, Boston Motor Werks, to the community. My name is Rob Hanna, and along with my friend and partner Audwin Alvarez, we’ve recently opened Boston Motor Werks, a BMW specialty repair shop located in Belmont, MA, just a few minutes off of Route 2. We are a pair of Master BMW Technicians who have worked at BMW dealerships for a combined twelve years and decided to fulfill our dream of opening our very own BMW service center. We have a brand new garage and have made heavy investments in BMW specialty tools and diagnostic computer equipment. Our shop utilizes the same tools and computers available to us that the dealer has with the knowledge and experience to meet or exceed their service levels for a fraction of the price.
Boston Motor Werks is passionate about BMWs--we have worked on everything BMW has offered from the early 80s all the way up to current lineup. The entire experience at Boston Motor Werks is dedicated to providing the most friendly, smooth, and trustworthy experience while ensuring the highest level of commitment and workmanship to each customer’s vehicle. We are cost effective. Being a partnership with no current employees other than the owners ourselves, Boston Motor Werks can keep its overhead low and thus pass the savings on to the customer. We use dealer parts for all of our repairs and will only substitute parts at customer request that are equal to or surpass OE standards. Please consider us for your next repair. We look forward to seeing you and your beautiful Bavarian machine for a great service experience! I'll vouch for the shop- they've done nearly all the mechanical work on my current car. (the blue M3 pictured above)
So far I've had done with them: - Full inspection of all mechanical aspects of my car post-purchase to identify weak points including subframe - Flush all fluids (SMG transmission, differential, brake fluid, coolant, power steering) - Oil changes - Brake pads, rotors, stainless steel lines - Fan clutch replacement - Installation of stud conversion kit (Turner/ARP studs + nuts) - Installation of CF rear diffuser - Replace engine belts - Programming of electronics options (flashing turn signals upon lock/unlock, auto-lock, etc) - More stuff that I can't recall at the moment I'll be dropping by there again soon for: - Valve adjustment + VANOS inspection - Replacement of broken parking brake shoes - Mounting winter tires on my OEM 18" wheels - Replacement gasket for a minor leak BTW their Yelp reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/boston-motor-werks-belmont |
You guys should post over at e90post.com in the New England forum. I'm in walking distance to your shop (I actually run Pleasant in the summer) and had no clue you guys even existed! This is great news. If you feel like answering some questions:
Do you have an alignment machine? I saw mounting above, do you have a good balancing machine too? Are you willing to do installs with customer-purchased parts? (e.g., a group buy comes up for suspension, will you install it?) What's your hourly rate? Do you have a common price list for e46 and e90 recurring maintenance? (Oil, fluids, brakes, belts, etc.?) Is the M3 also your loaner car? Thanks! |

They don't have an alignment machine at the moment.
Wheel mounting and balancing machine is good. I did bring customer purchased parts, but I would call/pm/email to ask about details M3 is mine, loaner is a 323 :) |
Hi guys,
We currently do our alignments offsite. You can leave the vehicle with us and will take care of it. We are $99/hr, however we do combined labor for common repairs. We try our best to work within everyone's budget and will prioritize repairs as they are needed. We absolutely have a tire machine and a balancer, in addition we only use factory diagnostic and programming/coding tools (GT1, Progman, ISIS, and ISTA/P) as well as a large stock BMW special tools. As Ken mentioned we have an E46 323i loaner and are working on getting a few more to make dropping your car off for repair convenient and stress free. Please email me at rob@bostonmotorwerks.com or call us at 617-489-0291 if you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment. |
Nice to see this. Great reviews on Yelp :)

At some point, I'm gonna need this: Valve adjustment + VANOS inspection
Ken - let me know how that goes when you get it done. |

An e46 m3 calls for the valve adjustment about every 30k. Not sure about the e36.
