Need opinions on this E30 before I buy it

Basics:

1985 318i sedan
Silver ext - fresh paint job
Blue int - drivers seat has a few rips
116k original miles
Just had a major service 3k miles ago
Automatic (see below)

Bad: Needs a new transmission or a rebuild. I found a rebuild kit on eBay for $199 plus shipping and I would have a local shop rebuild it. Also says it has a slight rough idle when starting cold but goes away after a short amount of time.

He only had one pic of the car and hasn't been home to send me any more pics. Says there is 1 small surface rust near the sunroof smaller than the size of a dime and barely noticeable. I'll basically be taking the money with me the first time I see it.

He was asking $750 but I have talked him down to $550. Do you guys think it's worth it? I'd probably end up slamming the dog p!ss out of it and standing it. Give me your opinions!

fresh paint job and its only 550? automatic sucks but if thats what you want go for it.
edit: somewhow missed the bad tranny part. might as well swap a manual in it.

My thoughts exactly

That's a good score if the mileage is correct and they're no other
major issues with the car.The M10 motor is low on power,(just over 100hp)but at least
you don't have to worry about changing timing belts.

From the little research I did I found the previous for sale ad from the prior owner and it stated the miles were INCORRECT. I called the seller out on it and he denied it being true until I sent over a pic or the VIN plate. Haven't Recieved an email back yet. Lol Glad I spotted it!

Still a good price, those cars are bulletproof.

True. I really want a manual and from what I read it's a little more to swapping than I thought. Would be worth it for me to spend more on a correct mileage one with a manual tranny.

I'd recommend an '89-'91 325i,or a '91 318i/is,if you're going after a 4 cylinder
motor.More buck$ though.
