..:Yellow DPS Coilover Review:.. Daily, Autocross, Track Review + Possible Group Buy
I been search on the forums for a long time for used coilovers in the $1,000 budget.
At first I really liked ST Suspension's review but they didn't have dampening nor camber adjust.
A friend of mine recently told me about Yellow Speed Racing coilovers, and said that they were pretty popular with the lexus, infinity crew. These coil-overs are used for drift cars. I asked if they could be an alternative for budget autocross and tracking coilovers. He said why not...
Fast foward couple months.
They made their first BMW application series months ago and wanted me to give them a review of the coilovers. So I got sponsored and promised to give a review for their lowest and basic of their coilover series for m3.
Let me know if you guys are interested I can get a group buy going for these.
They have external canister coilover systems and monotube as well. (More Expensive).
THEIR OTHER PRODUCTS:
They retail for $999. I can gauge interest for a group buy if my review turns good.
These are made in TAIWAN. But then again half the replicas on the forum are made from TAIWAN...
Quality Shop makes quality goods not location.
NOTE: I AM SPONSORED
15 Month Manufacture. LIFETIME through my guy...(He wants Yellow to have a good reputation)
PILLOW BALL UPPER MOUNT W/ ADJUSTABLE CAMBER PLATE
The pillow ball mount with camber plate is included on the front and the rear to offer direct and complete handling response (not available for some applications). For those people who dislike the slight noise caused by the pillow ball, we also offer hardened rubber upper mount for noise reduction and enhancement of ride comfort and handling stability.* The hardened rubber upper mount without pillowball is also available.
33-WAY DAMPENING ADJUSTABLE
This suspension system features 33-way dampening force adjustment (compression/ rebound). A wide range of dampening adjustments can be made to provide a variety of responses to different road conditions and to tune the ride feel.
Click to see their Manufacturing Plant and making of the coilovers!
Quality Control Check:
First Impressions, the average box and packaging...
A manual and a brochure for their products BBK, and coilover systems...
Lets mount these babies up!
note for rear installation the bolt seems to almost hit the control arm. My friend told me almost all rear springs for aftermarket will have this problem. He suggested I take them off and its not needed at all.
A drop 13 front 13 rear. Standard lowering height for max performance.
Dampening 13 front 11 rear.
Camber: unknown (need alignment first)
Ride Quality (10 Miles):
At first I had them set to 24 click all around.... my back SHATTERED from the stiff ride...
But it was the most fun I had on highway onramps for a while.
Feels planted firm, amazing feedback of the road.
Update: 13 damp front 11 rear. OMG like STOCK RIDE COMFORT but a bit STIFFER.
This is the setting to START. lol 24 was crazy...
Will update in coming 2 Weeks.

Tracking Review (Coming Soon):
great review. thanks for the contributions!
I see you've been busy on the M. New suspension, new shoes and a black mohawk.
I'd be interested!
got my attention. looking fwd to a follow up.
were yours shipped from Taiwan, or were they in stock. How long does delivery take.
also, those spring rates are KG/mm right?
is a difference of that much back to front on our cars normal.
thats 7 and 10kg/f and r = 391lbs/in and 560lbs/in. Is it me or is that a huge difference?
You also offset the dampening as well. I will ask him more about this.
I got mine from distributor in Irvine, CA. I have the last set in Southern California.
He is going to gauge interest and get some more into inventory if BMW is a viable customer base.
What applications do they have? I've got a 330Xi which is hard to find suspension parts.
i don't think they designed for Xi yet
follow updates here!:
Those look pretty much identical to D2's. Even the packaging and retail price. Only difference would be color and labeling.
oooorrr...Buy bilsteins/revalve and a coilover conversion kit.
Thats what I thought at first but the dampening system on this coilover system really works! I noticed small details that are different from those though.
While its not as comfortable as the KW3. They are quite comfortable for $1,000 coilovers, and in addition if the coilover system is way too harsh you can set the dampening to very soft to mimic stock feel (floaty).
I heard the ksport dampening system changing the levels doesnt really do anything. I have only rode on Tein Coilovers, JOMs + Koni Shocks, KW3.
I think the design of the camber plate and coilover system is similiar. Although yellow's camber plate is zinc plated to avoid rusting.
edit: my guy confirmed its similiar design to bc racing, d2, etc however the valving and spring is very different from those.
springs are sourced differently and the valving/dampening system is special for Yellow Coilovers. They did some improvement re-engineering to get better results from the different springs and valving/dampening system using the "design of the KSports". Also quality control on these are stricter atm since they are a relatively new company trying to make a name for themselves.
While the ethical behavior of RE-designing some other company's product to make it better (through their racing program/data feedback)....could be debated.... all i care about is the EMPIRICAL performance of the suspension for my car. Therefore I will only give an empirical review of this coilover system without any preconceived biases such as product similarities. After all the aftermarket manufacturers redesign OEM parts to make them perform better ( most....)
My guy told me to rip it apart through my review if the Yellow coilover system don't pair well with the m3. So he won't waste his time importing these for BMW. But so far I'm loving the daily cruises to my grocery stores and highway onramps.
My guy is setting up a professional photoshoot soon for these coilovers with my car before I go dirtying it up
Why not copy and paste the updates here too, instead of having us follow it on a forum where most of us dont frequent so much.
yeah thats what im going to do :)
was busy with 41 pages....12fontsinglespaced....
