Auto/Homeowners Insurance
Hey guys, I've recently hit a boiling point with State Farm. I've been with them for 10+ years but my old agent retired and the new one has **** the bed a few times...
Anyways, I have my 325xi, my wifes x3 and a 300k house in the suburbs of pittsburgh. Any suggestions on carriers? I priced out allstate and they would save me about 30/mo with the same coverage but I read some pretty rough reviews. Any one have any suggestions? Thanks! |

Met Life here.... Make SURE that you compare ALL coveraages... For instance... Sewage/sump pump backup was not covered under my old Allstate policy but was automatically included on my Met Life policy.
Also.. Insure anything of value... I have a few watches, rings and bracelets on the policy. Cheap coverage. When I had a roof leak a few years back because of winter storm damage... I called Met LIfe and they were willing to send out guys with tarps and stakes immediately if needed. My mom had a tree fall on her house and Allstate made her wait for a week! What a pain! Fax your existing Declaration page over to any place where you want an accurate quote... Otherwise you may be in for surprises. |
very happy with Liberty Mutual.

Allstate was all over the news for screwing people here during the hurricanes.
I have State Farm and have been very happy (including hurricane remodeling, a car accident, and a a car stereo system theft.) I would just find another SF agent. Sounds like its the agent, not the company. |

I've been using Costco Ameriprise for years for both auto and home. Cheapest all around and never had any problem with claims (4). Highly recommended.
I pay $700 a year each for my 330i and my wife's 325i. Maximum coverage (500k/250k) with full comprehensive. Home is $600 for 350k dwelling replacement. |
Thanks for all the replies! I was close to pulling the trigger on All state but read too many reviews of them jacking up the rates to make their quarterly numbers...
Anyone have any experience with Erie Insurance? I still havent heard from my SF agent. I left him two messages today. Beyond over the agency. |
USAA if you qualify.

State Farm here in So Cali but Ameriprise on my Vegas house.

If you are in socal, wawanesa for auto if you are a good driver, no one will beat them, for home try western mutual( they are very picky), or do both policies with mercury.
Allied is very good but sometimes very expensive on auto. Best of luck Sent from my PC36100 using Bimmer App |

Erie only writes insurance in a few states. PA is one of them. They just won JD power customer service award again this year. Two years in a row. A+ rated with AM Best for financial security and been in business since 1921. We write business for Erie here in PA. Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions. Oh and Erie doesn't **** the bed :) they make it!

I changed to AAA and ended up saving a ton, plus they are supposed to be a great company to deal with.

Wait til you have a claim lol I had aaa a few years back and they were HORRENDOUS to deal with during the claims process

I hear nothing but horror stories with AAA. Ameriprise worked out really well in the past 3 claims for me.

I've never had a claim with any of my insurance companies. Hopefully that trend continues, but if AAA is a pain if/when the time comes, I'll drop them as soon as it is settled. Thanks for the heads up.

I go through a small local agent(they handle my house/car/ and our business insurance). They shop a handful of companies that they deal with and give me the best price/coverage they can find. They make life VERY easy, are great to deal with. Call and a person who knows what they are talking about answers right away and done. Maybe you can find a local place like that to shop around for you.
I live in the county, but half of my zip code is in 'baltimore city' so most home insurance companies wanted to jack up the rate a few hundred dollars zoning my house city and they found a good company that didn't do that and saved me about $300-400 a year that way. My parents also use them and have filed multiple claims(from flooding) and they have been good to deal with. |
