m50 intake, m3 camshaft in 328i??

I've done some searching and this seems to be the only way to really make some real horsepower/tq on the e46 328s.

With tuning like a shark, and these mods... what would the hp/tq be estimated around vs stock?

the m50 swap sounds good for me to do. It doesnt seem a tune is necessary for it from what I've read?

i saw this dyno and it was the stock cam for the 328 vs the m3 cams

None of those things are possible on the M52TU engine.

M54B30 Manifold, ZHP or Schrick camshafts, headers and a tune and you'll be making some decent power...that's just bolt ons though.

are you sure the m50 intake manifold wont work with the 00 328i?

If you pull out 2 studs the manifold will bolt up but I don't think that there is enough meat in the head to port large enough to match the M50 intake.
I am thinking about the M52 intake instead with schrick cams in a ported M54 head. I really wonder if the M54 head can flow enough to honestly use the M50 intake?

The dyno graph you showed is of an E36 engine . You have an E46 and its a DIFFERENT engine.

S50/s52 cams wont fit into an M52TU, nor would S54

well that's disappointing. now where do i go from here

I really don't understand how daft some people are...Post #3...what more do you want? Myself and several others, including Iceman00, have swapped manifolds.

Double post...

I have found no dyno sheets of what you've posted.

Then be the first? It's not that hard. And M50 manifolds will not fit on an M52tub28...Just in case you missed that part...

not worth wasting the time and effort for a better throttle response.

id rather see numbers not "you could gain power"

Hello from denmark, dont know if it doesnt matter by now.. but i tuned my 328i proberply with the following:

M54b30 intake manifold with disavalve from the 330i aswell + kn cone filter
Ebay headers, mountet with stock cats, with 2.5 inch catback to supersprint muffler
OBD chipped with 7k rpm limiter
3.23 differential
Electrical fan

and thats about it, it produce 235hp from the crank. vs the stock 193.
in other words.. ZHP power :)

All of those things are possible you naysayer.

Edit. in all seriousness, e36 M3 camshafts will work with minor modification with hand tools. Solo//M has successfully installed an m50 manifold and made decent gains with it, and still has more room to go.

e46dub 05-27-2014 04:42 AM

to the people that say it wont work and have no knowledge or just want to join the bandwagon and flame can just stay out this thread. This is for people that have actually done it... moving on..

since my 328i is obd2, what would I use for tuning? Will a shark injector really work for an aftermaket camshaft and be good?

What kind of modification will I need to do to the camshaft to get it to work

SoloII///M 05-27-2014 05:02 AM

The M50 is a great upgrade, but it's not a bolt-on. You'll need to do some fairly minor (but still invasive) port matching to use it. And you will lose your OBD-II compliance, if that matters to you. If you have to pass an OBD-II emissions check, the M50 manifold is not for you. You'll also lose your DBW throttle, and you'll have to come up with a solution for the air/oil separator, which no longer fits where it used to.

In terms of cams, a set of Schrick cams would be a better investment.

e46dub 05-27-2014 05:18 AM

I dont have emisson checks :)

Im not 100% but I think I'm drive by cable. Its a 2000 328i.

for daily driver(and weekend tracking circuit&drag), which do you think would be the better setup. schrick cams and b30 manifold, or schrick cams and m50. I'm not worried about port matching as my neighbor used to do that for his drag cars (and still does).
