Samsung Galaxy SIII - In Depth Review.

So there was already a thread for this phone from awhile back, but it had some bashing and old rumors so now that the phone is actually on sale and reviews are out, I decided on a new one.

Anyways, the phone is headed to all four major carriers in the USA. It looks like it will be a big hit though, probably sailing past the sales numbers from the SII and widening Samsung's worldwide lead in smartphone sales, at least until the next iPhone comes out.

A roundup of about 7 different reviews, as well as highlights can be found here.

Quote:

In her review on the Galaxy S III, Silicon Republic's Elaine Burke takes a stab at Apple's iPhone ads, saying "it's hard not to be wowed by the speed of the Samsung Galaxy S III, which performs like phones do in advertisements, only this one doesn't need a 'sequence shortened' disclaimer." She also favors the HTC One X for certain tasks, noting that "photo enthusiasts and those who want the best in display are probably best off with the HTC One X, but if your priority is performance, the S III won't steer you wrong."
Quote:

Gareth Beavis at TechRadar thought the S III's design is "very sleek and the weight is minimal too - and battery life borders on the stellar at times." "If the Samsung Galaxy S3 had landed with a premium metallic shell, in the same vein as the HTC One S for instance, any question of design standards would have been obliterated." Overall though, Beavis ranked the S III as "the best smarpthone on the market. It's got every kind of feature we could ask for and more, and raises the bar once again in terms of what consumers should be expecting in terms of battery life, processor speed and media management."
etc, etc... Basically, the phone has more horsepower than anything out, but the shell is cheap plastic. Also, touchwiz overall isn't as good as vanilla ICS or HTC Sense. Other features include 4.8" AMOLED, quad core 1.4Ghz processor (Or a dual core Qualcomm), eye tracking so the display doesnt dim or turn off when being looked at, 2GB RAM, expandable storage and removable battery.

Opinions?

Awesome looking phone. I'm still holding out for the iPhone 5.

ugly software, ugly hardware.

no one is really coming close to the overall experience apple is offering.

MachRc 05-29-2012 05:04 PM

hoping for a end of June release!

I'll be picking one of these up when they come out for t-mo. I don't mind the "cheap" feel to them as it makes them lighter and less likely to break when you drop it. I've dropped my vibrant 4g from a second floor balcony onto rocks and it just scuffed the bezel.

This cant come sooner.

Don't want to start a war here but the Apple fanboy is confused. The phone looks promising. Waiting to set one in the wild.

Not a fanboy, just my opinion. I'm surprised no manufacturer has come out with something as sexy as the iPhone. Then again Apple has the edge, without all of the fragmentation.

Are you on sprint? I heard they let you use a Google number on their network or something like that.

So it's a smartphone with an 11" screen, Intel Atom processor, 4GB RAM, flash support, x86 app support, Android support, Windows support, all day battery life, full keyboard, mouse, USB ports, and trackpad? nice

Ugly. Even Galaxy II looked better.

Ynot 05-29-2012 11:22 PM

4.8" screen, crazy, it's a mini tablet. 4.3" is ideal. Those who say the iphone looks better is just your opinion. The iphone is a rectangular phone with a button.

I feel the same about the screen size. 4.8" is just way too big and you can see just how big it is in some of the pictures of people holding it. I have an S2 and it is probably the biggest phone that I would want to buy. Even placing my phone in my pocket can be rather uncomfortable.
