S54 M Coupe 1000whp Build

Hey Everyone,

So here we go with the build thread. This is going to be my street monster and occasional track toy. The goal is to see how impractical of a car I can make. So here we go. I know it's not an E46, but hey, it's the same motor.

So I bought this M coupe not all that long ago. Here it is the day I got it.

And I did what you're supposed to do with an M Coupe

But it needed some changes!

Anyone have any thoughts on Wheels. The Roadstars just aren't going to cut it. thinking BBS/CCW/HRE Quality.

Still in Planning or Waiting on Parts to Complete:

Built Motor
Big Fuel System
Huge Intercooler / Piping
Custom Intake Manifold
Full Cage
Custom downpipe & Exhaust.

The goal is 1000whp on the dyno, then setup for drag (2step, flat shift, gear based boost, suspension sorted, slicks and skinnies, etc)

Thoughts? Comments? Criticisms? Suggestions?

Yikes!!

turboi 07-07-2012 10:23 PM

What manifold are you using?

Im talking about the exhaust manifold

mestupmonkydude 07-08-2012 01:05 AM

^you can see it in the picture, it looks like a custom tubular manifold. Also OP i've really been diggin the CCW classic.

He didn't mention about the exhaust manifold, would be good to know from the OP. OP can you provide more info on the reinforcement kit you are using and why the change to the E36 rear diff cover (Stronger, better cooling, etc)? Have you though of upgrading your axles (DSS maybe)? I would go with CCW wheels, but i am bias. Project sounds solid, in for the results.

PS. I spot a 2JZ in the background with a healthy looking snail! What shop is doing the work?

On an M-Coupe, LMs or LM-Rs. In before played out: they never get played out.

This is an awesome build thread; I can't wait to see the outcome.
AFA wheels are concerned, I recommend a nice set of Fikse or CCW's in a 17" diameter.

Hey guys!

Thanks for the interest! Sorry I haven't been around too much -- got side tracked after I posted this yesterday.

Let me answer your questions --

The Manifold is a full Tubular Manifold custom built. It's all tig welded etc. It's really nice looking. More pics soon when I get them from the shop. As you can see it even leaves room for a bigger turbo than is there. And Just FYI -- They Jigged it and test fit it on an E46 M3 ;) It fits.

The kit is the defacto Solution for the M Coupe -- Randy Forbes designed and Engineered it. It's basically a replacement for the trunk floor where the rear end tears away and ties it into the strut towers. The E36 Diff Cover is because the factory M Coupe Diff Cover is single eared, so it's a lot more prone to breaking. They did it for exhaust clearance because it's the same rear end as the E36. So since i'm replacing the exhaust, I can go to the stronger 2 ear design.

It's on the list of possible failure points. Because this is such a parts bin car we're having to research where drag E30's / E36's / E46's fail at various power levels and for different parts. It's proving to be a fun information accumulation challenge. The shop is helping me out here as well, trying to do this right the first time and just take care of all the weak spots right off the bat.

Heh, I wondered who would catch that. That's a Mk4 with a GT4788. It's really pretty. FSR Motorsport Creations is doing the work. They built my 3000GT when I had it and I've been super happy with the quality of their work and their integrity. They build some crazy Japaneses & Domestic cars, then get in their BMW's and go home, so I figured they would be interested in a project like this and they definitely were heh.

Thanks for the Wheel Suggestions guys. I'm hearing lots of love for CCW's. I really think I want 18's and the second Lip on CCW18's multipiece wheels bugs me. Maybe I'll get over it, it just looks weird that the barrel comes in an inch, because they use the same face for 17's and 18's.

Hope that clears up some of the questions! I'd love to hear more feedback! =)

Nice project OP.

If your going to drag race it then set it up with some proper drag wheels. Just a thought.

:hi:

In for the win!! This looks like it's going to be a nice setup.

yess, love this build! Any more info on the tubular manifold; ie - did your shop fab that mani up? What turbo are you running for that hp goal? Good progress thus far brotha..

As for wheels.. M Couples + CCW's = :yikes:

Nice! I do like those gold wheels. Wonder how it would look on Silver.

Thanks man -- Yea, FSR Motorsport Creations made the Manifold. It does fit on an E46 M3 as well. It's all Tubular, tig welded, etc. etc. As far as I know they jigged it up as well. More pictures coming when I get them from the shop. =)

I don't want to say which turbo, because we may mess with a few different turbines to get the power level we need. Suffice to say, it's a Precision CEA Ball Barring turbo. And there's lots of room for even a bigger housing than is shown there. We're not going to get a T6 or anything nutty, but lots of room to achieve the 1k goal.

Great project. Can't wait to see it all done. If we can be of any assistance, let me know.

I got a Fair number of PM's about the Manifold. I don't know too much about the shops plan with the design, they do fantastic work and aren't inexpensive by any means, but this is the 2nd of my cars I'm having them build and am thrilled with the progress/work/shop. So if you're interested in the manifold, you might be better off calling them directly. http://fsrmotorsports.com/

Dirty Mike 07-08-2012 06:24 PM

Cool beans

hugoM 07-10-2012 07:35 PM

damn this looks like a badass build.

DOC_Race 07-10-2012 07:54 PM

Killer build! FSR does really great work, in for some results and turbo choices

bigjae1976 07-10-2012 08:25 PM

In for the results...

Nice car. I think the M Coupe (Z3 and Z4) are ugly but I'd own one in a heart beat. Coolest ugly cars ever!
