Shwagons Home Projects Thread

Going to be posting up some of my projects I've done and currently working on.

Background:

Purchased the house in Sep of 2011. I was 24 at the time and this was my first home purchase for my wife, two girls, and myself.

Like I mentioned before, the house was built in 93 so I have been working on updating aged fixtures such as the living room ceiling fan (that would only turn clockwise bring cool air up...)

The back of the house faces directly west and gets pounded by the sun half the day. With the large windows in the living room area, it lets in ALLOT of sun and heat. The sun was actually shining directly on the lower level thermostat causing it to say 85+ degrees mid afternoon (this causes the AC unit to stay on most of the day). The windows will need to be replaced soon I went to Lowes and found a 8' sunshade and installed it when I had the scaffolding up for the fan replacement. This has cut down on the heat and light transfer tremendously and I will also tint the lower level living room windows to help keep the UV rays out.

Been working on adding some Yamaha NS-AW150W 2-Way outdoor speakers to the patio for the last couple of days. I have a samsung surround sound system that didn't have any audio outputs so I built a box (out of some DPDT switches from radio shack) that would turn the inside speakers off and the outside speakers on (viceversa) and keep everything in stereo. Yesterday I finished running wiring and mounting the speakers.

The speakers sound amazing and are a great addition for when we are hanging outside. I never noticed how ugly those wall lights were until I started running the wires so Ill be replacing them soon.

It is amazing what new lights and hardware will do to the appearance. And it does not cost that much either.

Did you make this video a few years ago ?

Was the scaffold just for the fan replacement/blind?

Beautiful home, dude. How big is your lot? Looks like looooots of nice, wide open space all around you. Do I see a pole barn in your future?

Its only a acre. The land behind it is farm land and sits directly west, the sunsets are great :)

Wanting to build a 30x30 shop for my projects but don't really have anything in the works :(

KeeganB 12-22-2012 05:26 PM
