L/100km !
I just filled up and noticed my 2004 318i is getting 12.5L/100km. Its driven primarily in the city and stops and starts alot. Is this a normal figure?
The Air filter is approx 1 year old and all fluids (Engine Oil, Coolant, etc) were recently replenished only 1000km's ago. |
i get around 10-12L/100km i do a mix of driving, on the free way i average around 7L/100km in my 2001 330ci
|
Thats understandable for a 330ci but for a 2L I4 I don't think I should be getting 12.5L/100KM.

9.3L/100 from 1/2 a tank ...
|
I get ~330km from a 60L tank in my 318i (18L/100km) :(
But I live about 10 min from work and it's all down Paramatta Rd in peak hour. On the other hand, if I don't go on "fun" drives then I only have to fill my car about 8-10 times per year edit: I'm working on the assumption that a dead O2 sensor would throw an error. Correct? |
mine said 9.3L/100km today, free way long distance will definitely bring it below 8L
check oil level and top up. Seem this figure go up when oil level/quality is low. Not sure if its just coincidence. |
11.9L/100km from m3.

My average is 9.6L/100 from a 325ci. That's actual too not just what the dash reports. Average speed would be about 40km/h.

10.7 on 330ci

450kms to 55L of Optimax.. sooo 12.222L/100KM
|
I average 10-11.5 l/100km in a 325ci. Higher usage is usually due to my short morning drives to work with lots of turns. Manual too so I tend to get the revs up fairly often.
I also find BP Ultimate gets me at least 20-30km more than V-power 98. ~470-500km out of one 52L fill if there is highway mixed in. |
bc showing 12.7 on my m3

Which fuels do you guys use?
Shell, BP, independent? |
Have tried BP 91 & 98 and Caltex 91 & 98 over several tanks each and have noticed absolutely zero difference in fuel economy between all of them under the same driving conditions.

9.9 in 01 325Ci
|
Currently at 9.6 on my M3..
Been doing a bit of highway driving lately though. It usually sits at around 10.5-11. |
For a 318i that figure is pretty accurate for city driving. I've replaced all my filters, spark plugs, O2 sensor, PCV, cleaned MAF and basically done anything I could think of to do with efficiency and I was still getting around 12-13L/100km for city driving in my 318i. I also live about 10min from work in the inner city. Apparently our I4's are real fuel pigs when it comes to slow stop start driving. My average speed is usually around 20-30 kph. Get on a freeway and its another story. I take drives out to Bathurst/Orange a few times a year and get down to around 7.4L/100km.
