spindle difference help!
i need a new spindle because when i went to change my shock, i broke the knuckle bolt and now i have a blown shock stuck in my spindle hub. i tried drilling the bolt out....it is quite impossible. so i need to buy another spindle but the only one i could find is this one:

it says its only made for cars manufactured before March 2002. and my car was manufactured in october 2002 (10/02) so i called them and they said it only says that because the actual bmw part number changes after this date and as for any serious changes that would make it not compatible with my car, they are not sure of.

so my question is, if i bought this part would it still work fine and fit my 2003 330 xi?? or is there some big difference between the spindle from a pre 3/02 and a 10/02?

Have you considered taking your current kingpin to a machine shop and having the bolt fragment removed? It won't be any harder than removing and replacing the current part with a new one. It likely will be cheaper and if you find someone open today, you probably could be on the road faster too!

well i tried to remove it myself. i drilled a pilot hole in the center on both sides and started drilling and one side somehow went off to the south and now the hole and threads are messed up. i brought it to 2 different shops to have them do the rest for me and both places said that they wont do it and it would be better and safer to just get a new spindle... ugh!...i spend so much money on this car!!! LOL

Fair enough. As for your original question, the only thing I would be concerned about is that the strut also changed at the same date for the xi (per RealOEM). I doubt that it would be a problem, but it would probably be best to source the correct updated part for your car. You certainly don't want to get the new-to-you part only to have it not fit!

Hopefully someone with actual experience as opposed to realOEM alone can chime in to help though.

yes hopefully.. after looking at the ad again, i notice this is a pre facelift model. so i guess its safe to re ask my question as: can you use a pre facelift front spindle on a face lifted model??
