Brembo (fake) brake covers

Bought some Brembo plastic brake covers for my 2002 325i, they look great, but I've noticed that there seems to be a lot more brake dust, almost caked on, than before I put them on.
Has anybody else used these and noticed this?

You would think that putting a cover on there would divert the dust AWAY from the wheel, more so than having just the bare brake in there.

Any ideas?

I understand that there are other threads on this topic, and that MANY people hate them/think its tacky/it sucks, whatever. That's not what I'm asking. I like them, think they look good.

Just wondering if anyone else who has put on brake covers have noticed extra brake dust?

Can nobody give a simple answer, or does everyone on this forum have to be a smart ass?

You have a cover over the pads.....Breaking wears pads. Wear = dust. You are trapping the dust in the cover. Then at speed im sure its flying everywhere. Even into your brain. Thats the only explanation i can think of as to why you would put them on your car.

recently found out that my car came stock with brembos.

It's your car's way of smacking you for using fake anything on your car. All jokes aside, the dust must get trapped and then it blows all over the place when you speed off.

I can't imagine why they would necessarily increase brake dust. Do you think you are braking harder? Are the covers the same shape as the calipers? If they are a different shape, maybe they are "throwing" the dust around in a different way. I really don't know.

Let me ask you this: When you are driving like 80 on the freeway, and those fake azz covers decide to release themselves for whatever reason, what do you think will happen to those fake azz covers when they end up floating around on the outside of your caliper/inside of your wheel when it's spinning at god-knows-how-many-rpms?

Cause an accident? Maybe.

Ruin your car? maybe

Ruin a wheel at the least? Probably.

Give you more respect on this forum because they are now off your car? Most definitely!

I am not braking any harder than usual, same as it's always been. And the covers are essentially the same size/shape as the calipers.

I don't think it has INCREASED brake dust, more so than it does appear to me that it's trapping it and then just kind of exploding onto the wheel, like you said.

Is this to be expected with covers, or is this unusual? Haven't had much experience with it.

And for all the other people saying I should have bought the real thing---I don't have the ridiculous amount of money that a set of brembo brakes would cost. This was the best I could do at this point, to get that red look on the brakes.

And I will put up some pics as soon as I can

Same size and shape of caliper.....So they arent bigger.....Paint the stocks then.

well, they are slightly bigger in the sense that they fit OVER the existing calipers. are slightly longer.

painting the stocks is not really an option. not something I want to get into.

I like the covers and how they look. Im please with that part.

All Im asking about is if it's normal to have seemingly increased dust on the wheels as a result of brake covers? If so/if not, is there anything to be done to reduce that or is it something that I just have to live with?
