New headlights.... amateur... Help...

ok guys rememeber im new to BMW's and Im also new to working on cars,

So please forgive my ignorance here I'm just trying to learn...

Now my problem is, this

so theres the two little red and black wires, with individual plugs
which are wired to the bulb ....

So do I need a conversion kit??
new ballasts?
Or just a whole new set of everything??

Did you get new ballasts with the Umnitza headlights? If so tear that old ballast and bulb out from your old headlights.

Mjames22 09-08-2012 12:39 PM

Nope no ballasts, just headlights
so i guess the easiest solution here is to just get new ballasts?

You should be able to reuse your existing HID kit for your new headlights unless it uses a completely different bulb size.

Mjames22 09-08-2012 01:05 PM

Here's my problem. There are 2 smaller plugs from my existing kit .
The new headlights have one large plug.

ModBargains II 09-08-2012 01:53 PM

Can you please take a picture of that solid plug that you are talking about on the new lights. My only guess is that they are non HID and they plug directly into the OEM bulb harness.
Or you can shoot the picture over to me in an Email at Gilbert@modbargains.com

Thanks

sorry I should have done that in the first place.

Solidjake 09-08-2012 02:23 PM

Take out that plastic cover and take a pic of how the connector is to the low beam bulb.

This is the old set up I have in the car now.
notice how the high beam has a normal plug instead of the 2 red/black wires?
is it just me or is my wiring all screwed up...

thanks for all your help guys I appreciate it.

Solidjake 09-08-2012 02:49 PM

Your highbeams are standard halogen what they're supposed to be.

Your lowbeams have an HID/Xenon kit with the xenon bulb which is NOT supposed to be there in a halogen headlight housing.

Did you order ballasts with the P46 headlights from Umnitza?

Mjames22 09-08-2012 02:54 PM

no I didnt.
stupid me, I figured the HID\Xenon kit with the ballasts, I had would fit

Solidjake 09-08-2012 02:56 PM

Did the lights come with xenon bulbs? (the one with the red and black wires with the male/female plugs)

Mjames22 09-08-2012 03:01 PM

yes the The new projector headlights did.
I got the most basic everything when I ordered them. the 4300k

ModBargains II 09-08-2012 04:09 PM

From what it looks like you should just be able to plug your old ballast into the new lights as long as its the same connectors.
It seems like someone screwed with your wiring when they installed that HID kit. Your OEM plug for the low beams looks like its missing.

Mjames22 09-08-2012 07:15 PM

yeah Im starting to believe that they really messed up the wiring,
damn...
i guess i will just start chopping away at wires and see what I can figure out....

Take your old H7 xenon kit and plug them into the headlights.
if you cannot, then you may have ordered the FXR retrofit from us, in which case, you need a D2S adatper (you can still use your old ballast) and a pair of D2S bulbs that we sell as well.
