E46 330 Race Car Project - Suggestions
First of all let me congratulate you on a fantastic site. I have completely stripped my entire interior of the 330, including the dashboard, without damaging anything... All from the DIY's from this site. Absolutely brilliant.
So, currently building a BMW E46 330Ci race car but having a few issues of what to buy. So, have come to this oracle of knowledge for advice. I'm getting the roll cage sorted (extremely slowly) but still need to source some components. This is my first race car project so not looking for BTCC / ALMS spec, but am interested in reliable quality, and value for money. Cheap stuff breaks and some kits are just rediculously overpriced for what they are. Not going to specify budget as I want honest opinions from people that have the kit installed, and experience of it. So looking to get:
1] Brakes. Either full kits or just disks and pads with a particular fluid?
2] Suspension. OEM replacements, or coilover kits? Factory set ride height and damping or adjustable? Not going to be running on slicks and cage will pick up rear top mounts.
3] Replacement bushes? As I'm pulling this all apart it makes sense to replace all of these.
3] Strut braces and anti roll bars?
This will do for starters. Many thanks in advance and look forward to any advice you can offer.
How's your subframe?
2) Adjustable coilover, depending on your experience and budget will determine which.
3)Yes, with sphericals or solid if possible, depending on the location.
4)You can get by without a strut brace, yes to adjustable sway bars.
I would also upgrade the oil pump to keep the nut from backing off or the shaft failing, and add an oil pan baffle. There's a lot of other stuff I would recommend if you're interested...
to start off 330 brakes are amazing to start off with so to save you a bunch of coin to start with get some straight track pads with SS brake lines and srf as previously stated. suspension i would go for the latest set of bilstein or kw coil overs and adjust it accordingly. i suggest bilstein or kw because they are great kits and if dialed in will be more than enough for track duty. if you want the car to still be somewhat streetable go powerflex everywhere including the subframe with a reinforcement kit from turner motorsports. maybe ati super damper if you can wing the price and lag time as well as wire tight the oil pump nut.
sway bars are crucial for any car that sees track time and i dont believe in strut bars increase body tightness but may invest in one for aesthetics soon
