Need Some Engine Info
hey guys, i'm getting and e39 m54b30 at a really great price and well i have and e46 with a 1.9 4cyl. What i would like to know is if the m54b30 from the e39 will work in the e46. I know its the same straight six that's in the 330 but would the mounts and stuff line up or would i have to remake to mounts and once I the harness and the ecu etc. would this be a straight foreword swap?

I'm from trinidad btw and its easier and cheaper to do and engine swap than sell your car and upgrade otherwise that's the route i would've taken

The engine will fit, but you might need different motor mounts. The transmission might not fit, and even if it does it might move forward or backward a little, wo the driveshaft and transmisison mounts might be affected.

Look here for your car, then compare the parts from the donor car to see if you can use all of the donor parts, or if you will have to change some stuff,

hey, thanks a lot for the info. What are my options with respect to modification to the engine? I really want to be able to add some horsepower to it eventually but I'm looking around and I'm not seeing much options. I really want to do the m54 swap and well if there's not much room for improvement I might end up doing what I don't really want to do which is to do a 2jz-gte conversion. I am really trying to avoid the cross breed tho especially as i love my BMW and cross breeding would take a lot away from it. Any info you c=guys can offer would be great!

Good luck.

I think u need to change out your oil pan. The oil pan on an e39 m54 is differrent from the same engine on the e46
