Yeah I know how bad was it! Took my an hour to get my plates haha. You should have got 111MMM to sell?

Hazey82 10-07-2012 07:42 PM

Greedy RTA folk read this on the smh

Those hoping to cash-in on the new combinations by buying a high-demand plate and selling it for a profit will be disappointed to learn that these new plates can't be auctioned off. Instead, they have to be registered to a car, and can only be passed on to family members.
I'm sure there are ways to get around it like me surrendering the plates at an agreed time after payment with buyer and then when they are back in the pool they can order them again

steve.k 10-07-2012 08:00 PM

Lol only be passed on through family members? So stupid..

I wonder if it only applies to the new styles or is it a new rule they are bringing out which applies to all plates? I doubt it.

Hazey82 10-07-2012 08:05 PM

The article was regarding the new number first style plates but I believe the rule has existed before and does not affect the custom plates

OH sh*t! is it the new euro style plates too? damnnnnn...........................

DesiredM 10-07-2012 08:18 PM

That has always been the rule here is NSW. The only place where plates can be easily sold on to anyone is VIC or WA. It's always been through family members or relatives here in NSW because I used to have LL00LL as a joke plate on my old Z3 and was offered $5000 for it however couldn't sell it to him as he wasn't related to me and there is no actual way around it....because you have to prove you are related by birth certificate, marriage certificate etc. However you can always try to submit the form by claiming your 2nd or 3rd cousins and that may work?

Be warned that when you surrender plates it takes a full month for them to go back into the system for being available or sometimes the RTA actually keep the plate aside if they like it and will sell it as one of their "top 20" plates on their website.
