Reusable air filters
Has anyone used K&N air filters on their E46 323i? Results? Recommend or not?
|
I use the stock air filter, however, others have written about too much oil on the filter getting on the MAF and causing issues.
|
I, personally, do not recommend an oiled filter...as Sansho said...too many stories of them causing issues...letting larger particles into engine. Short term, if done right, you might not notice too much...but long term...not liking the possibilities!

As long as you clean it regularly and don't over oil it you'll be fine personally I clean my maf every time I oil it I've had no problems or heard any

...you'll be fine...except for the data showing higher levels of particulate matter getting into engine. You might get more flow but less filtering.
I've never seemed to run out of air, but want to keep dirt out of my engine as much as possible. |
Never looked into to any data but I would imagine a higher quality cloth filter would have better filtering qualities than a paper one plus the oil on the filter catching even more particulants but that's just me I'm not a doctor

I've read enough to believe what I'd reported as true. It's all here...many, many discussions about the pros and cons of oiled filters. The only pro is that they're cheaper...the cons are that they mess up MAF and let bigger particles to pass through.
I'm not a doctor either...but have read far more posts than I've posted...and have learned to consider my sources pretty well. |
Well thank you for the info I guess ill reevaluate my filter choice in the future

Reusable Air Filters
Thanks for the information everyone. Being new to Bimmers I appreciate as much Info as I can get.
I do use a K&N intake on my 1999 F150 and have had no problems, more power but less MPG, but it is a truck used for hauling and towing so no big deal. I will stick with OEM everything on my BMW, just to be safe. Thanks again. |
Okay, you can stay! :lmao:
