Help! What is this part?

1 Attachment(s)
Well, it's leaking oil :/ I did a temporary fix with gasket maker (not sure if its a good idea).

My valve cover is also leaking... I ordered a new one already...
I dont know, it all started after my vanos seal replacement. I guess it was time to change the valve cover, because it started to chip when I tried to clean it.
But I can't figure out what part is that circled red :banghead:

pretty sure that's the oil line to vanos, did you use a new crush washer? tq it correctly?

Solidjake 10-13-2012 02:24 PM

 ...... :yikes: ..........

Lol, that's the vanos oil line. Replace the crush washers.

farukh 10-13-2012 02:32 PM

That's what I found! Is it the thing that I need to replace?

Solidjake 10-13-2012 02:55 PM

You don't need the entire hose, just the washers.

Really? Just washers? Nice! Alright, thanks for part numbers!
And unfortunately I need to change the whole valve cover :/

Solidjake 10-13-2012 02:59 PM

Valve cover is cracked? Sorry to hear.

For the washers, you just need an adjustable wrench and you can loosen the hose from the top. Just make sure to put a rag under it since a good amount of oil will come out.

Yea :/ I started cleaning it when I was replacing my vcg, and it just started chipping into pieces!

Solidjake 10-13-2012 03:45 PM

I just tightened it hand tight with a ratchet and gave it a quarter turn more.

24 ft lbs or 32 newton meters

did you do the vanos job? if you did, you should really have the whole procedure mapped out in your head including tq values of everything before you begin

if you didn't , bring it back and ask why they reused the washers, and if they say they didn't, ask em what the bolt was tqed to

Yea, I did it myself! In fact, I even think that I had a new washer... But it was an all night project and by like 6 am, I couldn't think straight lol Hmmm, I gotta see if I still have that new washer somewhere!

youll actually need 2 washers- one for the inside (vanos side) one for the bolt head side-

been a while so i can't confirm or deny this, but the realoem pic doesn't show it that way, but it does make sense

Mcbridges11 10-13-2012 07:08 PM

ya i was looking at that too- just did my vanos seals 3 days ago- often one stays stuck to the line-- be sure to clean all that lea stuff off of the line as well as the VCG so you dont run into more seal issues

peytonracer4 10-13-2012 07:27 PM

I recommend replacing the line as well as the washers. The line will eventually leak where the rubber meets the metal ends. It's not really that expensive and will look nice once it's done.

How do you know he needs just the washer? Ive never seen crush washers go bad unless messed with....ive seen the line crack at the banjo however.

just read rest of his post lol, might be crush washers but ive reused these before and it was fine, cant say its ONLY crush washers from the pic.
