Best speaker replacement option?
Looking to change out all the door speakers in my 330i. I know this question has been asked a million times but everyone always seems to say BSW. I've looked into that and I'd like to see what other options are out there. I want to leave the factory head unit for now, as the only aftermarket one I would consider is a dynavan and that's a bit pricey for me right now. The H/K's don't sound terrible but they're really bugging me lately. I want all new components in the front doors, probably just leave ye rears/and change out the deck speakers and add Subs. Is all this possible with the stock hu? I know that probably sounds a little crazy but im hoping it's possible. Let me know what speakers you guys are running!

Anyone got any suggestions besides BSW?

seriously? nobody done this? i've searched and it seems like 99% say bsw but i'd like to avoid going that route

i got a set of bsw "woofer" in my front door. they don't sound so great compare to the hk that I have in rest of the speaker setup.

the hk setup sounds pretty decent to me for an upgraded factory setup. if you are looking for better, you'll need to upgrade the whole setup instead of just changing speakers alone - budget $3k installed. it's not worth it consider you will never get that back when selling the car.

Dude, go to crutchfield and they will offer up suggestions for speakers as well as providing the required hardware all at a reasonable price

polk tweeters, mb quart midwoofers

rear door need to be bsw, they are an odd size

trash 6x9 subs in rear deck, 6.5 speakers will fit in other location on deck

add a sub in trunk

I don't know much else but BSW. I'm not going to say that's the only option, but I am curious as to why you want to avoid them. They are a perfect fit and they are definitely an upgrade to the shitty paper HK speakers. My HK midrange/tweeters were blown in my car. The BSWs are cheaper than OEM replacements and are made of superior materials. I imagine the door speakers are the same. All your other options will include making some sort of adapter to fit the speaker into the door and splicing some wires. Not that hard if you are handy. You can probably get great setup with some 6.5 inchers from Crutchfield. You just gotta make sure they are shallow enough to fit. Our speakers mount to the door trim instead of the door frame, so they aren't as deep as most speakers. I wouldn't be surprised if Crutchfield had an adapter too.

As for what Wasp suggests, I can't agree more on the rear deck. I took mine out and put in an Infinity Basslink with a custom mount over the battery tray. I actually have bass now. The stock 6x9 woofers total 64W in power. It's kind of pathetic. I couldn't even hear them. The 200W Basslink is enough to fill out the lower range.

I don't ahve anything against BSW, but it seems ilke you pay a premium for a "plug and play" fit when you could pay the same or less and with a little more work have a better system. Send me some links guys! I'm ready to order them. I want to use the factory head unit and I have h/k. There's 3 speakers in each front door correct? Send me a link to whatever you recommend. Thanks!

I am going with Boston Acoustics Pro60's. I am going to try and install them this week. They will definitely be run by an external amp though. If you want better sound, I don't think you'll get what you are after unless you hook them up to an amp. If you are going to put a sub in, just get a 4 channel amp and run the front two channels on the amp and bridge the rear 2 for the sub.

Where in TN are you? I used to be a professionally installer and could help if you needed it.

Change the tweeter first- the midbass second. The HK midrange is actually quite good- and to clarify that's the 2.5" speaker next to the tweeter in the coupes tweeter/midrange assembly.

Look for a mounting depth of 2.7" or less. 6" woofer is the easiest if you don't want to have to dremel the doorcard plastic. 6.5" will fit.
