Front drive shaft help
Hey guys, hoping you can help me out. I am replacing the front drive shaft on an '01 325xi. The Bentley manual is zero help on this matter BTW. Anyway, I can not get any of the bolts to break free from the front flange. It's a pretty tight space to work in and I don't think an impact wrench would even fit in there. I sprayed it with penetrating oil last night and let it sit hoping it would be easier today. Any tips on how to get to these and get them out?

Also... I don't think the bolts are actually seized... just a fairly high torque and tight spot to get to makes for very difficult time removing.

Breaker bar or a cheater bar (aka a pipe).

Aren't the driveshaft bolts an external torx head? If so, I hope you're using the right socket.

Also, spray it again with the penetrating oil.

No I don't believe they are torx head. Use a one foot extension and a breaker bar. A little bit of heat is ok, but don't burn the input seal of the diff.

Use loctite on the bolts (especially at the rear of the driveshaft).

Actually they came out no problem when i tried them today after letting then sit with the penetrating oil for 24 hours. I really apreciate the help though guys. Especially on using loctite. I bought some just in case but almost didn't use it sonce Bentley didn't say to. Godd to hear I was on the right track.
