Is reddit
I'm fairly new to reddit ..
but it seems like it's cute animal pictures, Russian YouTube links, republicans suck, rehashed memes, and some photos of redditors (u guys are seriously ugly!) doing silly things. What else am I missing? |
welcome to the internet

Anything you see posted here started on Reddit...

No, the website has 100 million people, 3 billion visits, all for Russian videos and cats. That's all it is. You figured it out.

Install RES (Reddit enhancement suite). Unsubscribe from the defaults that do not appeal to you (advise animals, F7U12, ect). Click the random button to find new sub-reddits. Use the search function for literally anything you're interested in. Small subs = less useless posts and pun threads. There is some really interesting stuff posted daily but it's like any other community, you need to weed through the bullshit to find some substance. It's gets repetitive but the AMA's and some of the ask reddits are fascinating to read. Install RESand sort by top comments. Read all of the top all time posts.

Basically, if you want to know anything you can go to reddit and talk to people that have experienced it. Literally any topic you can think of has a separate subforum.

www.reddit.com/r/_____________ fill in the blank and there's likely a subreddit for what you're looking for. Unsubscribe from the garbage that it automatically assigns to you and start digging around for good subreddits.

As eee4666 said, unsubscribe from the sub-forums that you aren't interested in (for me, it's r/atheism because they're all against religions and will **** on any religion out there, intentionally, and will see themselves as higher than those who do believe, and r/politics because politics don't interest me, and the past couple of months riddled my update feed with GO OBAMA!!!! WOO!!!! threads).
With that said, you'll learn a lot, and being able to read AMAs by the likes of Terry Crews, many famous singers/bands, and even the president of the U.S is awesome. TILs can be very interesting, but the r/askreddit is usually where a lot of gems hide. You'll learn a lot from people's previous experiences, things to avoid, things to look forward to, etc. |
