Here's what I bought after my E46...

Yup. That's an '89 volvo wagon with a small block ford V8.

Loud, fast, handles like a pig but soooo worth it.

ps Selling my old 17" winter rims over in the proper forum.

RockLee 11-17-2012 08:27 AM

I bet that handles like a pig with its ass cheeks tied together.

I call her "the brown streak."

Not really.

But I need to figure out a nickname.

jerseyzillest 11-17-2012 08:31 AM

How much did you get it for?

tj330 11-17-2012 08:33 AM

It actually handles better than it has any reason to. Bilsteins all around, braces and beefy anti-roll bars do wonders. The steering is way less sloppy than American cars of the same era. The ford PS pump sorta fights with the volvo rack, but the wheelbase is shorter than you think and the weight is low and sort of balanced. When pushed, it's pretty neutral in the corners unless you give it some power, which leads to fun and donuts.

Steel Beast of Death!

I've survived a rollover in one of those things. Awesome cars.

tj330 11-17-2012 08:39 AM

Bought it from my neighbor for $2500. He never drove it. He put 2k miles on it in 8 years. I have 3500 miles now in 8 months. The original conversion was done in the mid 90s by a pilot. I googled the guy and found he had some involvement in drug trafficking flights from central america, which somehow makes the car even cooler in a modern-day bootlegger's overpowered swagger-wagon kind of way.

Correction, the center of gravity is low. The weight is decidedly *not* low. Probably weighs about the same as a 94 'stang, though.

RidinBimmerz 11-17-2012 09:30 AM

I just wanna know... why :hmm:

NOVAbimmer 11-17-2012 09:58 AM

OP in the other thread needs to take notes. That's a turn-on for girls

Broach><330 11-17-2012 10:02 AM

If I ever go non-sleeper with this thing (unlikely) I was thinking square angel eyes.

tj330 11-17-2012 10:18 AM

Still tons of room in there... forced induction anyone? http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...y/72dc50e5.jpg

cowmoo32 11-17-2012 10:33 AM

I love it. It looks like it has 3 pedals, yes?

tj330 11-17-2012 10:54 AM

Yup, T5 manual tranny. Needs a rebuild soonish.

tj330 11-17-2012 11:08 AM

Oh, and this is a rarity for this type of conversion: The air conditioning works great.

CollinsE90 11-17-2012 01:01 PM

The "vo"

mkodama 11-17-2012 01:15 PM

LOL, ugly, but has character. Pretty opposite from the standard E46.

tj330 11-18-2012 11:18 AM

It is nice to be able to carry eight rims with tires, inside with extra space. It's got a tow hitch, so I could use it to drag a track car around, too. Very long term plan. :) Short term plan is to fix the last few things (throttle cable, two lug studs) to get it ready for autocross. No idea what class I'll end up in - probably end up being ranked against kit racers and heavily modified stuff.
