Valve cover gasket question

Hi guys,

I have 99 323i and wanted to replace VCG and part number is 11129070990.
And when I went BMW(http://www.shellybmw.com/), they told me the part number I gave them has been discontinued and I get get it from any BMW. And they recommend to use 11120030496(after Sep. 2002) this one and told me they use this one for all older BMW 3 series and 5's.

Is it right?
Can I use this one on my 323?

I'm kind of confusing now.:hmm:

probably, since part number does not appear to be listed in realoem that I can find...not for a 99 323 anyway?

But BMW said they don't use old part. THey only use new part which is 11120030496.
That is why I confused. and both parts are used on E46.

Pre sep. 2002 used 11129070990 and after sep. 2002 use this 11120030496.

I guess nobody know about this.

THen I have to listen BMW dealer, right?
I'm using the newer gasket on old model and will let you know how it goes.
The guy I spoke, told me their BMW use newer gasket for all e46 and e39. Guess no choice now.

I have been wondering about this. I knew it was discontinued but didnt know it was still availabe under a different part number. Let me know if it works because mines are leaking kinda bad

Ok guys,
I replaced VCG last night and used newer gasket which is 11120030496(after Sep. 2002).
And my car is 99 323(different part number for older model).

The newer gasket fits perfect and no leaks.
I don't know why there are 2 different gaskets but I'm happy with the newer oem gasket for now.

I'm about to replace my VCG, and my production date is 8/02, so right on the cusp.
mikeson: is yours still good, a year later?
I'm really curious what the difference was between the 2 VCGs.
Some of the parts vendors don't even distinguish between the 2.
