Long tube intake.

Homemade. 3.5" diameter, 16 gauge aluminum pipe with a 9" long, 5" base diameter K&N down in the bumper. Sorry for the crappy pictures.

Iceman00 11-21-2012 06:34 AM

Nice! how does it feel?

SoloII///M 11-21-2012 08:57 AM

Haven't driven it yet. It lives on a trailer (hence the crappy pictures) and doesn't have tags so I can't really take it on the street.

Once I get the Megasquirt up and running I'll be scheduling some dyno time and testing this versus the previous Conforti short-ram intake and some other toys.

I should note that the 3.5" tube barely fits past the headlights and the filter is so big it requires modifying some of the plastic bits in the front of the car.

jared_wiesner 11-21-2012 12:05 PM

Yep pretty much in the exact same spot as mine. Mine being a 3.0 inch the tubing sat fine, but once I added a flow stack and the larger filter it needs its jammed in there pretty good and parts of the fender liner had to move a bit.

SoloII///M 11-21-2012 05:50 PM

Right, the real challenge was finding a way to fit the 3.5" pipe and the enormous filter. It would certainly not work on a car with xenons.

You can get a bracket that relocates, it will fit. The bracket comes with the original Dinan kit.

SoloII///M 11-21-2012 08:21 PM

The Dinan used a 3" tube if I recall correctly. I had that intake on my E36 M3.

jared_wiesner 11-23-2012 07:52 PM

My car has xenons. My left side ballast is zip tied to my the bracket for my air intake tube.

murph1379 12-06-2012 09:32 PM

I've got the dinan kit, it's 3.5" for the E46, but I haven't actually installed it, just recently got the xenons out.

SoloII///M 12-07-2012 08:44 AM

The Dinan looks a lot nicer than mine. But mine was a lot cheaper. When you go SP you stop caring about how your car looks :p

SoloII///M--where did you purchase the bent tube?

jared_wiesner--where did you purchase your flow stack?

Thanks.

Motons

Nice intake too you should wrap it in reflective tape if it is your race car. Looks ugly, but it is functional.

reyes186 12-15-2012 11:49 PM

I had my there also but when it rain it suck In water it was making my maf to mess up... I hope you don't experience the same thing as i did .

Hornung418 12-16-2012 09:34 PM

You need to rotate your MAF back to the upright position. Can cause reading errors if installed like that for too long.

Iceman00 12-17-2012 01:27 AM

My MAF is toast, probably due to my crappy filter picking up grime.

SoloII///M 12-17-2012 08:38 AM

Okay, I'll respond in order.

Tube: I bought it off eBay. It's a 3.5" diameter aluminum 16-gauge tube bent at a 60 degree angle. I just did a search for aluminum tube and it came up.

Heat tape: Yeah, I plan to wrap it in gold tape. Haven't done it yet. And yeah, Motons rule. This car has 700F/850R springs and with the Motons it rides nicer than my ZHP on stock springs and FSDs.

Water ingestion: If this car were street driven I'd worry about it, but it isn't, so I don't. Valid point, though.

Rotated MAF: I have heard that's the case, and until you pointed it out I didn't even notice that it wasn't oriented correctly. That's sad, because I have a mostly-stock '03 ZHP street car and the MAF is oriented differently but I never noticed it. It's just how it was when I bought the car. I'll fix it when I put it on the trailer this week to go get the aero stuff built.

Iceman00 12-18-2012 12:54 AM

I will say that I rotated the MAF when I first dyno'd my intake, virtually no difference in power.

murph1379 12-18-2012 07:13 AM

You weren't running the oversized zhp lip on the trunk before?
