After market backbox

Hi everybody want some advice about what backbox get. I've got a 2000 1.8 e46. Or if it's a good idea to cut the backbox out and weld some tips on

I'm assuming you mean a muffler? I did the muffler delete on my 328i and I couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price. It sounds great & is easily reversible if you don't like it.

How much did it cost you to do and Is it a easy DIY job do yourself

SHOoff11 11-24-2012 02:24 PM

It cost me $50, including a new muffler tip, at my muffler shop. If you can weld I guess it's an easy DIY, but I can't so I just paid to have it done.

Jimbow 11-25-2012 10:08 AM

I can't weld no. But I think im going get it done tho it sounds loads better from what I watched on YouTube. The only trouble is mines a single pipe and I want a double

SHOoff11 11-26-2012 12:54 AM

I have the single pipe as well, and have a single muffler tip coming out of the back, it looks ok, nothing spectacular. I can post a pic if you'd like.

Jimbow 11-26-2012 02:22 AM

Yeah go on then mate. If yours looks alright I might go with the single pipe then

That looks spot on not to big or small you've done a good job there. And has that made much of a difference in noise terms too

Thanks! It's louder on the outside, but I can't tell a difference on the inside. It has a nice sporty tone & gurgle but nothing too obnoxious.

I know I'm being a pain but could you do a video of it please

SHOoff11 11-27-2012 11:23 PM

No problem, give me a day or so, I need to put it on the battery charger so it will start.

That sounds great it's got a nice deep tone to it but not to much.

SHOoff11 12-05-2012 12:53 PM

Yup, it's perfect for my taste.

I am in love. I bookmarked that video. I plan to do this soon as well. just to figure the process, you used a pipe cutter, cut out the piping next to the final muffler, and then used some pipe clamps to hold in the new straightpipe?

I took it to my muffler shop, but that's basically what they did, but everything is welded. Only cost me $50 and that's including the tip.

I plan to give it a try, once I fin the clamps lol, then I'll probably just call it a DIY, advantage with clamps is that when emission time rolls around, I can throw the muffler on, and be in the clear =3

Sounds like a good plan, we don't have inspection in Alabama so I made mine more permanent.
