Brake lights staying on!!

Hi

Have a e46 318
Mileage is around 30k

Having a problem where the brake lights come on and dash lights stay on when key is removed.

When car is started there are no problems.
Also remote fob is not working.

I have to disconnect battery to stop it draining from the brake lights staying on.

I am trying to use Inpa to diagnose it but am having trouble with that,

Is this a known issue? Anything i can do to try and fix it?

Thanks

Brake light switch.

Edit: Sorry, sounds like an ignition switch if stuff stays on with the key removed.

After a bit of research found it could be n/s/r abs sensor or speedometer sensor.

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

My brake lights were staying lit so I changed the brake switch and then the grounds in the holders. It ended up being the ground in the more solid connection of the two.

Also the temperature gauge goes to max,
Even though car is off

The ground for the brake switch?
Is there a diy on how to access the switch?

Thanks

The brake switch is mounted on the brake pedal assembly. My problem was the ground in the tail light bulb carrier in the trunk which caused all kinds of other strange things, like the radio going out and the steering wheel controls not working.

After disconnecting the battery overnight, the problem seems to have gone.

So hopefully all it needed was a reset.
