What is a fair price for a gloss black powder coat on a set of 19" wheels, or even painted ??

'Painted' - I presume you mean Wet Spray Vs. Powdercoating. Powdercoating around $100-200 per rim depending on where you go and what colour you want done, wet spray roughly the same. Powdercoating will give far better durability over wetspray although wetspray in some instances will provide a better finish.

Transport? Why didnt you just get them done locally ? Are you happy with how they turned out?

$100 per wheel, sandblasted and powdercoated in two layers, from Mr Kleen in Sydney. $75 for 18"

I powdercoated some wheels silver/grey then had a powdercoat clear over the top - this improves the finish and looks as glossy as enamel or 2-pack and provides some degree of protection. There are mobile guys that will come to you and paint the wheels presumably not powdercoat. Powder coat is tough but if it does get a chip in it these can grow as water/corrosion gets between the finish and the underlying metal.

Have a look at the finish called shadow chrome. Looks nice IMHO. Although this depends what the body colour is. Presumably you don't want to look like some riced out rollerskate.

Costs about 100/wheel - more for clear or shadow chrome.

Bought the wheels in sydney.

Anyone know of any good places to get wheels powder coated and sandblasted on the Gold Coast?

Just diy'd mine with enamel paint & primer with a clear coat aswel cost me $70 all up, slow process doing it yourself but saved a fair bit of coin w/out compromising too much on quality.. Went from gunmetal grey to white, turned out pretty sweet

Looks good man! Did you buy a spray gun for this? Where did you get the paint from? If you can be bothered, could you give me like a brief outline on what's involved.

1 can of color for each wheel + 2 cans of clear + 2 cans of primer. Mask up around wheel, wet sand first with 400-600 then smoothen with ultra high grit (1000+) until very smooth. Use a paint surface cleaner (degreaser) to clean after sanding. Primer 2 coats, paint 2-3 coats, clear 2 coats. Wait minimum half hour between coats. If you want to be very anal you can also lightly wet sand with very high grit in between coats (when dry).

I initially wanted to also powdercoat my E30 rims but decided to spray them myself instead. As MR was saying its a rather slow process. I took about a week with them. Each primer'd and 3 coats gloss black. Finally a couple of layers of clear coat. Well worth it in the end.

Hey, I used Depulu Wheels down on the GC to fix my scratched up/scuffed wheels and repaint black when I had my 2 piece wheels on my ol Rotary. Cost 800 or so for all 4, took them a couple of days. Highly recommend them. :thumbsup:

I basically followed exactly what stevie.k said, bought everything from supercheap auto... Spent a day on each wheel as I don't have a spare set of wheels & was using the spare to get around in, I followed a DIY I found off another forum & it worked out good just takes plenty of patience..

painting would be pretty easy..pretty much do what Steve said..but instead of degreaser, i would use wax and grease remover.
Also i dont use a clear coat ontop..really depends on what paint youre using. If you use a spray gun, would be so much better and easier.
