Loud vibrating noise while car is idling

Sometimes I hear a LOUD vibrating noise when my foot is on the brake while I'm idling at a stop sign or red light. I do NOT hear this vibrating noise when my car is in Park- only with my foot on the brake with the car idling (stationary). When I say loud, even my 4 year old asked me what the noise is!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I bet it's either the exhaust bracket at the flange to the headers, or an exhaust hanger.

Do get a friend to inspect it while holding the brakes. A toddler should work nicely.

Hey OP if you have any progress in finding and fixing this symptom please post it. I still have some vibration issues felt like what you described. I have changed out motor mounts and axles which lessened the vibrations but there is still some left. I will check the exhaust hangers again, those were the first ones that I checked before but seemed ok and solid.

This and change out your engine mounts. I had the same problem on my Expedition. It was unsurprisingly easier to get under that car and see what was up. Also clean your MAF, idle control valve, and intake air temp sensor with some MAF cleaner. Should smooth out your rough idle.

I haven't checked under the car yet.

Where is the intake air temp sensor?
