hydraulic to mechanical pulley
I have everything (water pump, thermostat, upper and lower hose, AC tensioner, expansion tank, and coolant temp sensor) pulled out and am having trouble changing my serpentine pulley tensioner......come to find out I have a hydraulic on the car and a mechanical replacement in my hand.

Does anyone know of a link for a hydraulic to mechanical tensioner pulley DYI?

Thanks in advance,

Well it seems pretty easy. Just use the top and bottom holes from the hydraulic to anchor the mechanical. The shorter bolt works from the hydraulic however neither of the other bolts seem to the right length. Does anyone have the size of the top bolt for the mechanical pulley?

Understand you have the wrong part on hand, however, BMW superceded the mechanical tensioner with the hydraulic one.

Return the mechanical one, and either just replace the hydraulic pulley, which is available separately, or if you want replace both the pulley and the hydraulic cylinder. The part numbers are here. Autohausaz.com, as one source, has the OEM parts.

Size of both bolts needed are 8mm X 35.

Very easy and nothing special needed to be taken off to apply the mechanical pulley if you have the hydraulic one on your vehicle to change.
