OEM amp and sub install
 
So my 325coupe was never blessed with the sound package from the dealer. I found a factory amp speaker and sub set up removed from an m3 and I'm curious to know if this could be a plug and play situation? This might be wishful thinking Does my BMW have the harness for this amp hiding in the trunk? Or am I going to have to run all the wiring from the head unit.

So is your car just running the speakers straight to the head unit? You can easily check for the harness in the left side of the trunk. There are plenty of amp wire DIY's that walk you through the process of removing the side carpet panel. All you do is take off the tail light, pop the rivits holding the carpet in and pull it back. All the nav, CD changer and amp wires should be wrapped in a cloth bundle if pre-wired. As far as I know the size of the drivers should be the same. Have you looked at the cost difference of going aftermarket vs OEM? I actually took out my stock stem except for the head unit and replaced the amp and speakers with after market items. The stock speakers and amp are ok for OEM but you could get an aftermarket setup for cheaper and that can handle more power and quality. All of the E46's I've seen in the states have at least the basic amp and 3 way speakers in the front doors and with HK systems as an upgrade.

I found all the goodies in the trunk and searching online I believe the hk amp will just plug right in. The only problem is the stock speakers that I have different independence. Some are 2ohm and some are 3 so I'm not to sure how this would effect performance. Really all I wanted was to make the system a little louder and clearer without have to tear apart the interior and breaking a bunch of clips and seals. I figured buying the hk amp and plugin it in to get a bit more out of the speakers would be worth it. As long as the price was right

I know what you mean about not wanting to break anything in the process. I did mine with as little modification as possible incase I sell my car some day. I used the cables in the back coming from the HU to the amp and wired them to an LOC to get RCA's. I then wired my crossovers and amps. I used the existing speaker wires going from the amp out to the drivers to connect my after market speakers. It's not ideal, but if you want to keep everything like it is and get louder sound you can use T-taps. You don't have to cut off the connectors for the amp and speakers. You can tap into the wires to get your RCA's and run the signal back to the speakers. I used t-taps at first but then cut the wire and soldered it together. That way if you want to hook everything back up like it was you can. I wouldn't recommend running different ohm speakers off of the same crossover or amp. Doing so can ruine your speakers or amp unless you'r going with an active setup.
