If only we had stricter gun laws in Chicago.. this wouldn't have happened.... oh wait, they used a knife:

Chicago pays $22.5 MILLION to woman who was gang raped and plummeted from seventh story window after police failed to take proper care of her

City agrees today to give the staggering sum to Christina Eilman who was released from police custody into a high-crime area where she was gang raped and plummeted from a seventh floor window
Eilman, who is bipolar, should have been taken to a mental hospital for an exam but cops ignored NINE phone calls from her parents
The woman, who is now 27-years-old, suffered permanent brain damage from her fall and now needs constant medical attention
The settlement is the largest in city history

The city of Chicago agreed today to pay a record $22.5 million to a woman who was released from police custody in 2006 and instead of being taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, she was released into a high crime area where she was gang raped and plummeted seven stories.

Christina Eilman, was 21-years-old when the crime occurred and she suffered permanent brain damage from the fall and has needed constant medical care ever since.

Eilman, who is bipolar, was taken into police custody at Midway Airport after suffering a mental breakdown on her flight from California.

Rather than bring Eilman to a hospital, police released her after 29 hours in custody, despite her parents calling at least nine times to warn them about her mental health status and that she was having an episode.

Police later testified at a deposition hearing that she was visibly agitated and should have been taken to the hospital. Witnesses said she was throwing herself against the bars in her jail cell.

Eilman, a former UCLA student, was released near a housing project in a crime-ridden neighborhood on the city's notorious South Side when she encountered the sex fiends who attacked her.

She was dressed in just short shorts, a cutoff top and boots and was without her cellphone.

After being gang raped at knifepoint, she either fell or was pushed from a seven-story window, she suffered severe brain trauma and the 27-year-old will not recover.

Iím embarrassed to think that a poor girl like this would have been so callously treated by members of the Chicago Police Department,' Alderman Edward Burke said, according to CBS/Chicago.

Her family had been seeking as much as $100 million in damages for pain and suffering and to cover Eilman's never-ending medical bills.

Gang member Marvin Powell was convicted of abducting Eilman but not sexually assaulting her or causing her to go out the window.

He served part of a 12-year sentence before being paroled last spring.
Moral of the story is that morality is gone from Chicago... or at least far too much of it. Guns don't kill people... fawkers like those involved in this case do..

12 years for the guy huh? That seems reasonable. He takes the life of a young woman, and gets 12 years in a minimum security resort. Good job Rahm, keeping Chicago safe from Chick-Fil-A and Glocks.

 @ "morality is gone from Chicago"

At least the likelihood of that gang banger having a shorter than average lifespan is high.

True.... but as statistics tell us... he will be superhumanly fertile and a procreation machine

Funny the worlds most violent cities have some of the toughest gun control laws on the book.

Use them as a model for the country? No thanks.

Funny they typically also have higher population densities, higher rates of poverty, lower education (inner cities), among a slew of other variables that may contribute to violence.

Such a shame.

It is.

It is also no surprise Chase will tout it on here for his own political agenda as though he has proved something.

I'm sure everyone in Chicago appreciates being lectured on morality from the kid who grew up in a gated community, belonged to a country club and had his parents buy him a BMW.

Happened back in 2006. Way to be on-top of things.

Columbine happened in 1999... Why are we having to have it brought up regarding this debate on guns?

Way to be on top of things. And Penguin, even you don't travel to the south side, no matter how much quick wit and sarcasm you can produce.

Yep its ignorant to think that a lack of gun control is compeletely to blame. It also doesn't help.

Based on statistics pre strict gun control and post strict gun control crime remains the same.

Maybe instead of blaming guns we can blame people and work on those aspects of society and culture that riddles the inner cities.

Its a psychology issue not a gun issue.

MDydinanM 01-18-2013 02:01 PM

Not to be insensitive, but the article states the poor girl was bipolar. So I'm not sure if this is a good example of gun ownership because I'm not sure If I would want a bi-polar person owning a gun. And before everyone jumps down my throat, a close family member of mine is bi-polar and if said family member had one, I'd be more worried about suicide than inflicting harm to others.

Not only are you wrong in your comments, but you also come across as judgmental and bitter. Regardless of my upbringing, I'm welcome to comment on the rest of the world.. Saying otherwise is preposterous.

I love it how pro-gun advocates and right-wing websites/forums/facebook pages are compiling every piece of news that validates their point and then they share it everywhere. I have several on facebook like that. Same links, all the time.

Wow, that's one messed up story. Chicago sounds awesome.
