Hand Stand Push Up contest

Get in guys
I typically go down go where my head touches an abmat. I know this is acceptable in the crossfit word so this is what I've done. Feel free to go deeper or as far down as I did

I got 15. Hit my max I sept to hit by sept 2013

Good job man! Handstand push-ups are easier if you add tension to your core/posterior chain/legs. "Loose" legs make it much more difficult. A more tense body will also help with overall body control.

Your friendly neighborhood Capoeirista

So glad you did that... now I understand. I was touching my head to the carpet when I tried and it felt impossible to get back up, elbows way past parallel at that point

I'll give these a shot

As many as we want! :P Until you start participating, they are just entertainment to you. Just enjoy the show. :)

P.S. Remember that time that I threw a kick at your head when we all went out for dinner about 6 years ago? :eeps: Good times!

DylloS,

These will help improve your core for handstands/handstand push-ups:

...and then you can advance to these:

Those are some of methods we use in Capoeira to improve core strength as far as balance on the hands are concerned.

Thanks guys

Steve, the tightness definitely helps. Too bad I don have abs to show lol.

Dabears, def work up to the floor. I can probably only do like 4 fresh from the floor. It makes a huge difference

Romeo, as long as people are willing to participate I'm all for these contests. They're a lot of fun. We just have to do things we're all capable of. So nothing like max rep 225lb bench. Monday ill probably start a max rep squat with 95lbs since that's my weight for the current program. That's light enough where we can all do it and go for max reps

My effort. I think I can do more tomorrow. I already did an arm workout prior to this attempt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITxnNZqouuQ&sns=em

Welcome to my life of home workouts. At least he didn't start licking my face like he usually does during hspu.

A year ago I am not sure I could even get into a handstand.

BreakMyWallet 01-30-2013 08:58 PM

i usually go lower than parrallel, but ive only done them with my trx, so im not sure. when my shoulder heals ill give it a go

Glight 01-30-2013 09:38 PM

Did 9. Pretty happy with that since my right wrist is kind of jacked and I hadn't done these in months. Took video but it won't upload for some reason. I'll try tomorrow when I'm by a computer. If my wrist were better probably could have squeaked out two more. About 220lbs at the moment, maybe more.

Holy **** these are hard, lol. Tonight was my first time trying them.

I got 5, didn't video because I didn't want evidence that I fell on my ass the first time.

Trashcan 01-30-2013 10:42 PM

I only performed 21 HSPU's. I know that I can do at least 30 of these on a good day, but following yesterday's intense lifting session (..and how wrecked my body feels overall; heavy DL's and more-heavier-sets-than-usual on the bench press), 21 was/is all that I could muster.

I may take another crack at it Friday. I need to let my shoulders repair themselves.

XKxRome0ox 01-31-2013 02:28 AM

Beast, mongs

I won't tell people how I was out of the camera's view holding your legs
:eeps:

I tried hspu middle of last year (I think because solly mentioned it in a workout)
I couldn't even do one
Would you say it is mostly shoulders?

LOL! I won't tell if you won't. ;)

Yeah, it's entirely shoulders and triceps.

How many Spandex clothing items do you own? Lol.

If I have time before I leave for work tomorrow morning, I'll give it a try, otherwise Friday for sure. Are my finger tips supposed to touch the wall or does that not matter?
