Crazy day buying my new M3

Bought a 03 M3 yesterday. Been looking a while while trying to sell my 330i. Found a honey of a deal just outside Chicago and made my move....

First off its a 2.5 hr drive away. Dealer got it friday on a trade. This guy traded in my 03 M3 with only 42k. And traded in his 750i. Both cars traded on a new Equus. That new Hyundai to compete with bmw and Benz. It was $65,000. Good choice? Lol. So they put it up for sale Monday and I lost it to another guy they said. Called me up Tuesday and said the deal fell through. Didn't know why then. So Wednesday I drove up. The price was $16k. So I was frantic to get there before another. They wouldn't let me put down a deposit because so many people were calling about it. So I get there and it's near perfect. Hell it only had 42k on it. Then they tell me they upped the price! Now they want $18k. Obviously they misjudged how fast it would sell and wanted more. The guy before me lost it that way. I wasn't thrilled but still thought it was a steal. Got screwd on my trade in of course but signed away and then drove 2.5 hrs in freezing rain and light snow. Since the Midwest got a light storm yesterday. God I was scared. Of course it had summer sport tires lol. Long day but I'm happy. What's your thoughts on how the dealer handled the price. I still think its a great deal.

2003 M3 carbon black, 6spd 42,700 miles. All service records. Paid $17995

Congrats! M3 is a whole new animal isn't it? Glad you made it back safe through that crap we had to deal with these past few days. And yes you got a pretty good deal on that car, thats on the low side of private sale value.

Isn't that bait and switch?

SHe46M3 01-31-2013 01:10 PM

I payed the same exact price for a 02
73k no heated seats and no navi and I thought I got a deal

As long as your happy don't worry about the price. I paid a bit for my 02 carbon black vert but it had only 14,000 miles.

First off, congratulations on your M3! I do have to ask, did you have a pre purchase inspection done on the vehicle? Trusting a dealer is never a good idea and since it sounded like you were rushed through the process it seems like an item that could have been overlooked. There have been a few M3s sold from dealerships here in the NW that need quite a lot of attention - one even had a cracked subframe that the dealer "missed" during their initial inspection of the car. Certainly not trying to worry you or freak you out, but you didn't have a PPI done on the car, I'd recommend taking it to a GOOD indy shop to have this done. If there is a major issue with the car, it may not be too late yet. Congrats again on the car, it will ruin you for the rest of your life (in a good way) :)

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I was worried about no PPI done. I most certainly did rush. I plan to have my local shop check it over. Funny about the bait and switch comment as I looked that up when i was there. I had the autotrader ad saying $16k but that morning their website did say $18k. They said they changed it the day before. Funny how no one bothered to tell me. Can't wait to really feel her. Haven't even opened her up yet since the weather is so crappy. I can tell the difference over my 330i straight away. Especially in the clutch and gearbox.

jhaurimn 01-31-2013 02:04 PM

Haha... Just wait until you redline it.

i agree with jhaurimm, wait until you punch it on a dry day. anyways, you got a steal, even at 18k. i paid 18k for my 02 m3 in october with 70k so congrats man, great buy

Kinda want some pics now.
I've had 4. IMHO, you did very well.
So forget all about it and enjoy it without worrying.

Can't wait until this cold snap blows over. Definetly gonna post pics. It was 10 and felt like -12! I need to live somewhere warmer lol.

Congrats on your car. No, you're fine with the price. The whole point of a dealer is that you guys "deal." It's not like finding a typo in a department store ad and insisting that they go by it.

That's a really good deal! Was anything done to the car? Or is it stock?

illestminimike 01-31-2013 11:36 PM

Oh boy. Just wait till you rip through the gears.

Bmwdad 02-01-2013 07:00 AM
