XI Oil Guide Tube
 
Does anyone know which part # is correct for the updated design? I figure while I replacing everything I should just install the new part.

Real OEM Does not show it.

It looks like the part number you listed is correct. If your xi was made before 3/03, you will also need the "cable holder" referenced.

If your car was made 3/03 or after, you have the updated part per realoem. Check to see if that part number was ever used on a RWD e46 and see if it has been superseded.

Either way, I would just clean it and not replace it.

My Build date is 03/03 which makes it even more complicated! I put the 03/03 build date and it gave me the 52.00 one. So do I need 11437565438?

I think the new flavor has a larger diameter outer tube less willing to clog.

I know my CCV is taking on strange behavior in the freeze. I read the "winter" kit has insulated tubing over all the fiddly pipes. Owners claim this sleeving is a pain to work with where some tear it off.

I am waiting 'till good weather to replace the bugger,clean the ICV etc. I keep looking at the catch-can option but probably will replace the factory bits and will upgrade that stick tube. I want the fix to work!

FWIW 11/03 build date here and I had the old design.

Also, I will second the notion of reusing the old tube after a thourough cleaning. Mine wasnt clogged at all but had some build up. After a good soaking ithe build up had dissolved and I expect it should be trouble free until the next CCV failure.

Gasoline, Brake cleaner, carb cleaner. I used it all.

Biggest tip is to get a small stiff piece of wire (or a pipe cleaner if you have it) and agitate the space in between the walls. I have even seen folks attach the wire to a drill and work it around to clean it.

The key is to do whatever it takes and use whatever to clean it.

Seems like alot of work to clean a tube. I might just order the other tube now!

You need to the 438 tube and o ring. All M54 engines should use this. For some reason Real OEM does not list it. Its not cheap but worth avoiding the problems.

This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B11 08 03 dated February 2009.

The new tube wasnt worth the ~$150 price to play for me and honestly it really wanst all that hard to clean the old one.

If the origianl wasnt fully clogged after almost 9 years then the new design wasnt really all that necissary for me.

^^ Sounds like that thing was pretty restricted? I thought the small gap was a winter clog-O-matic with water vapor, emulsification. (white/yellow goo). Cleaning would be futile if the passage is too thin.

How cold is it in VA?

The tube is only 109 now these days. Got the rest of the cold weather CCV today. Looks like I might use some electrical tape around the CCV Valve to hold that insulation on etc.

Nah not really. There was some build up but I wouldnt call it extreme. I rarely make any short trips.

Where I am we can get some extreme cold stretches but it rarely falls below 0F.
