Blown Trans again

This is my second 5 speed I've blown, I finally got smart and got the 330ci Trans, now all I need its the 330ci rear end and CVs, the 325 drive train juat can't handle 330 motor and high compression pistons. To much power, I can't wait to Dyno at school and get my real numbers. Quick question does anyone know of a conversion kit for 330 CV shafts? Or should I just get a whole subframe assembly with diff and everything? Thanks.

The diff, as well as the axles themselves, should be the same between the 325 and 330.

I thought the 330 came with a 5spd for a while before the six speed.

lcoleman 02-05-2013 09:13 PM

I was wondering that, too. Based on what I see on RealOEM, it's still a different p/n.

The 330 has thicker axles and beefer CV joints and the 330 zf trany is stronger

Real OEM says the 330 and 325 got the same axles. I know the diff is the same, perhaps a different ratio, but otherwise a standard medium case open (blah) diff.

I'm assuming these trans are being put through extraordinary abuse?

Probably used harder than most, but I doubt the 325 transmission is designed to handle much more than 200 ft*lbs.

Ya it is, it sees quite a few track days a month. And with way more power and torque over factory it just can't handle it but the Zf can

The 330 definitely has larger axles. WAY larger. The bearings are also WAY bigger. (different trailing arm)

The ZF can handle 320 lbs of torque. don't be doing repeated launches. i doubt your 330 swap had anything to do with blowing transmissions. you might have another problem somewhere or just bad luck.

GSherbs 02-07-2013 01:57 PM

Just wondering why you wouldn't just buy a 330 for your track days... Sounds like you've put (or are about to put) a lot of time, effort, and money into making a 325 into a 330?

Ya that's what I thought cause the 330 has the same rear brakes as the M3.
And probably bad luck, and abuse has a play as well. And no Launches just hard Shifts into 2nd it Roasts the Tires when I shift into 2nd

And ya well I've had the car for 3 years now and I'm going to turn it into a dedicated track car soon, and just can't sell this one to one to much money invested already and 2 I love it I have a really good setup on it and it really grips hard, I'm trying to get a 135 for daily or a E46/36 M3

Currently in the middle of a trany swap, went down to the stealership and got the 5/reverse fix kit and detents for the zf Trans and am now pulling out the old one. One problem the guibo is bigger meaning my drive shaft won't fit, so I think the out put shaft on the getrag has the same splines as the zf and hopefully will allow me to swap out put shafts... Hopefully........ And I just pulled it off and the are the same splines! Sweet! I win this time.... But mostly she wins....
