E39 or e61? Which is better?
 

Looking to buy a wagon. So I'm looking at used audi a6 and bmw wagons. Of the bmw wagons, I like the look and simplicity of e39, but I know it will be hard to find one on goo condition because of their age. The advantage of e61 is age, but I don't like the central command system.
Anyone have any insight when comparing the two bmw models?

E39, hands down. Easier to work on and cheaper to buy, it's just a better car imo. I'd definitely take it over the Audi, as for the E61, also a good car, but I'd much rather have the E39.

E39 is better looking and perhaps easier to work on. E60 is a better chassis.

Were E61s offered as a 2004 model? if so, you might be able to find one with the relatively simple M54 engine versus the N52 series... it would just mean familiarity though as the N52 is a technically and mechanically a vastly superior engine to the M54.

I'd love an E60 550i in 6-speed manual... if not for the coolant pipe issues.

E61 model was introduced in 2005. So no wagon was brought in USA on 2004.

used to have E39. not that good in my impression.
