Someone please answer

I just bought 18inch wheels... 18x8.5. Et 35
From Umnitza. For my 2001 BMW 330i
With H & R cup kit suspension.

My mechanic I have who is putting them on says they are too wide. They are sticking out way past the fender. They won't work.

Any suggestions ?

terzinator 03-05-2013 11:58 AM

get different wheels? (offset more like 45-50)

widen your fenders?

that's all I got.

VMRWheels 03-05-2013 12:23 PM

18x8.5 ET35 should not be poking out super fast past your fenders. Are you sure they are ET35? Did he put wheels on the car and then put the car on the ground?

Dave1027 03-05-2013 12:30 PM

If they are ET35 and they are "sticking out way past the fender" then there has to be spacers installed is my only guess.

330xIce 03-05-2013 01:44 PM

18x8.5 et 35 if like the ideal size you want for a non-m. :hmm: The only problems I can think of is that there are spacers installed or you have the offsets wrong

Hey guys,
thanks for the responses,

I figured out what happened here.

I realized I have 18x9 et35 square set up.
Thats what they sent me, granted the guy I spoke with said they would work, (I think they were out of the 18x8.5 that I wanted)...

anyway, I guess thats why they would stick out way past the fender?

So has anyone ever returned wheels? Can you return wheels?

I mean, they were never mounted, my mechanic just called me and said he was not going to put them on because he "knew" they were way too wide.

He just took one out of the box and looked at it.

Can I just exchange them for 18x8.5?

I am sort of knew at this, and have never bought wheels...first time.

Thanks, guys
this forum is great...

That should still work? Post pictures

330xIce 03-05-2013 02:38 PM

This is another member on the forum. He is running 18x9 et37 (So basically the same specs as you)

Whether you can return or exchange wheels is up to whoever you bought them from. Most places will allow it as long as you have not mounted a tire to them or mounted them to the car.

umnitza 03-05-2013 03:07 PM

This is exactly how they should look as posted above.

Since your wheel guy is mistaken, we suggest maybe getting a different guy to do it for you 35ET is fine.

vinndubb 03-05-2013 03:44 PM

I dont know what to make of it.

does the other forum member also have the H&R Cupkit on as well?

I dont understand?

My mechanic actually made it sound like it was not even close!

I will post some pics later.

Thanks again guys for responding.

VMRWheels 03-05-2013 04:19 PM

Photos would definitely be helpful! :)

TallSkinnyMatt 03-05-2013 04:21 PM

Either its the wrong offset, or your mechanic doesn't know what he is talking about. If thats the case... I would definitely recommend a new mechanic since I would never trust him working on any other part of my car! Just put the wheels on yourself, and take some pictures to show us.

pics coming tomorrow...mechanic said he will send me pics after he puts it on the lift.

but anyone want to buy these:

paid $650, will sell for $400, never mounted, just took the one out of the box.
BRAND NEW

I will also post in classifieds

So from what I am hearing is the ideal set-up is 18x8.5 et35 for my 2001 330i sports package with H&R cupkit suspension.

If I am not mistaken, my stock 17' are 17x7.5 up front
and 17x8.5 in rear. what is the offset?

If they're OEM they are usually et47, but you have a staggered set up so Im not 100% sure

umnitza 03-06-2013 02:42 AM

there is absolutely no need to sell these, we can guarantee you that these will fit.
Please review your email.

THECLEANERBEAMER 03-06-2013 07:10 AM

Yeah they should fit your mechanic is stupid he "opened the box and knew they weren't gonna fit"? Just by looking.

vinndubb 03-06-2013 08:08 AM

Waiting for pics to be sent to me from him this morning, he tells me that he took one out of the box, put in on the front... Just to get a sense of "will these fit"...he then said that they would stick out WAY to far...waiting for pics now from him and I will post.

My only concern is that they are m3 wheels I believe,
And they are 18x9 et35
And my car has the cup kit and sits really low in the front even with my 17 inch stocks!
Again, I am all new at this so thanks for bearing with me on this.
I appreciate all the feedback.
Pics coming soon

330xIce 03-06-2013 08:35 AM

Have you ever in your life owned spacers? Perhaps when he put the new wheels on he forgot to take the spacers off? :dunno:

vinndubb 03-06-2013 09:34 AM

Nope,
Never owned spacers and I bought the car stock.

I also asked my mechanic If for some reason , there may be spacers on the car.
He said... Absolutely not, no spacers on this car.
