Vanos experience??

My car recently turned 100k miles in February. She isn't really showing signs of the Vanos failing, but with the recent performance mods I have done I think I should do them now before things start to go bad.I'm wondering if I should spend the money with Dr.Vanos and just get the unit with the new seals already installed, or get the Beisen systems kit? Also, if anybody has done their own seals and feels like giving me a hand or some pointers,I'm goin to do it either this weekend or next.. ... Thanks ...

If you want to save some time and hassle get the entire rebuilt unit which has the bearings fixed too (if I remember correctly) if not then just get the seals.

I did the job, it's not that bad just messy. Make sure to get new crush washers for the vanos line and new bolts.

I don't have time to give you a hand this weekend, but I did the Beisan seals and anti rattle kit a few years back on my ZHP. I have the vice grip inserts you would need to buy so I can lend them to you, but they are only a few bucks. Maybe you can grab them if you are still interested in checking out those two tone door panels I have for sale.

Besian seal kit, DIY. Change VCG too. Two birds, one stone. You could always throw in some spark plugs too if they haven't been changed.

I agree with Fasthackem. I did my VCG at the same time as well. Started the work on a Saturday evening and wrapped up Sunday afternoon.

I just did my vcg about 3 weeks ago because it was leaking in back corner. Spark plugs I did in Aug '12 at 85k miles along with O2 sensors. I guess you should replace it anytime you take valve cover off? I think i'm just gonna buy the seals. From the videos i have seen , it looks like a messy job. I also don't know if its really gonna take 4-6 hrs? I am pretty mechanically inclined, and do most of the work on my car myself..

Took me about 3-4 hours (don't really recall). Take your time especially tightening everything back up.

I did the Seals, rattle kit, VCG, and spark plugs all at once. Its not hard, just tedious and messy. Make sure you have a strong impact wrench if your going to do the rattle kit

Bake 04-10-2013 12:43 PM

Agreed. It is not difficult, just tedious. I took my time cause I didn't want to screw anything up. It took me the full 6 hours but I was not rushing at all. I have a heated garage so I started on a Saturday night and finished the next day.

I did it last year. The forum makes it seem like it's really hard but it's a joke. Really easy, the DIY walks you through it bolt by bolt. I had some nice gains after doing it. Better gas mileage and response. I've done it on my car and another fanatics. Both of us saw some good results.
