Doubt he's active duty, but curious what happened in this case.

The charge against Christopher Grisham, who was arrested after police found him carrying a rifle while hiking with his son, was changed from resisting arrest - a Class A misdemeanor - to interrupting, disrupting, impeding and interfering with a peace officer while performing a duty, a Class B misdemeanor.

The original charge said a call came in of two men walking along the road, termed "suspicious males," in the area of Airport Road and Old Howard Road. One appeared to be armed, according to the police report provided by Cpl. Christopher Wilcox, Temple Police spokesman.

UPDATE (1 April 2013): My attorney received the incident reports and official charges from the DA today. The "resisting arrest" (class A misdemeanor) charge has disappeared and been replaced with "interference with public duties" (class B misdemeanor) charge. Neither charge is cause for taking my firearms and they still have not been returned. Now that we have official charges and incident reports, more information will be released this week. I am completely innocent of this and all charges and time will show that I did nothing wrong besides stand up for my rights as an American.

I would if I had the money (poor student). Looks like he has well over his goal already though. Hope he embarasses that one cop.

While I don't think the cop was right, what is with these guys taking walks in the middle of the day with rifles?

You have got to understand people are going to call you in. If I saw someone in my neighborhood strapped with an assault rifle, I'd call the cops too.

Sounds like they are just looking for trouble. I doubt you need that for self-defense.

If you are going to do it, you better wear Google Glass and capture the ENTIRE sequence of events on camera. Cops are lying bastids.

This. Why draw that kind of attention on yourself. 321... Second amendment crowd...

only in America

pancakes 04-16-2013 07:54 PM

the 2nd C in CCW is not important.

mattcarle21 04-16-2013 07:57 PM

I agree it's weird to carry an assault rifle, but the cop should have used his mouth before his muscles (well mostly fat).

Incidentally, despite his arrest, it seems Texas is:

Quote:

Texas is a right-to-carry state, and law-abiding gun permit owners can carry rifles and hunting weapons openly, so long as the weapons are not being carried in a threatening way.

A father and son looking for trouble? Really? More people need to do it so the 99.82% of legal gun owners can show that legal gun owners are the majority and that what the news reports is not law abiding citizens.

If I saw someone carrying an open weapon I would think I am more protected than not seeing one.

@4 min "you guys think you are the law or something".....um, yes, dip$hit, whether you like it or not they (unfortunately) represent the law in this situation.
