Best exhaust w/out droning

What is the best way to get the crisp growl out of the E46 without getting the 2500 RPM drone? Wife hates it!

I thought I saw taking out the resonators but leaving the stock exhaust.

I put a pair of Magnaflow glasspacks and took them off the next day because even though it sounded great at high RPM, the drone was terrible.

FYI, I put a pair of Magnaflow normal exhausts on my Boxster and it sounded better and nice. It didn't come alive until I removed the back 2 cats (there are normally 4) and then sounded beautiful with no droning.

Thanks!

Just get a muffler delete

REDBIRDE46 04-29-2013 10:22 PM

I tried glass packs which are as bad as a straight pipe.

Anything that won't have droning?

UUC TSE3! Every time I step on it I can't help but smile! And.... no drone ;)

I have a friend that is selling a hiop (racetec) axle-back.
Here is mine. Second res deleted. No drone and sounds amazing after 3k.http:// https://www.youtube.com/watc...e_gdata_player
Edit: link not showing up.

Do not remove the resonator. Most of the drone free exhaust systems have the stock resonator still installed.

Many think the resonator is the muffler and remove it. The muffler is the rearmost can on the car behind the rear axle.

Muffler delete is what many do.

FYI, I have the Active Autowerke Gen 3 axle back exhaust with rear resonator deleted and ECIS intake. I like the setup, a bit more aggressive but, not too loud. Below is a link to how it sounds.

Are you interested in having the option of sending balls of flames out your exhaust? Search for me, 'exhaust' 'flame' and V2...think that's the thread.

Eisenmann can be found here, however, to sure how many people here will fork out this kind of money for their products!

Nice products, but $$$$$!

Scorpion from Bavarian Autosport

hi its me alec 04-30-2013 08:51 PM

Cheapest and easiest method would be Magnaflow muffler, stock everything else.

Or you could just do a muffler delete, and keep the stock resonators.

Whatever you do, keep at least 1 resonator, preferably stock.

edit: yeah UUC is good too, but different generations of the TSE exhausts had droning and loudness complaints. Not saying I wouldn't love them, but there was plenty of talk on here about droning about 5 years ago.

Does that thread have to do with UTI's? :lmao:
You said flames out the balls?

dmax 05-01-2013 04:48 AM

Oh...that would explain that burning sensation I feel sometimes!

OP, you know, you didn't say, but what exhaust do you have now? You said your wife hates the drone...so I assume you already have something you don't like or that you and your wife have just been listening to exhausts together and trying to find one you both like the sound of.

Before it's too late...tell your wife that the drone you prefer to hear is hers, and that you think you should stay stock...so you can hear her better at any speed.

You're welcome.
