Super speeding....not sure where to put this.

Hello everyone.
I wasn't sure where to post this but I figured I would start here since you guys have always given good advice in the past.
Yesterday, I got pulled over by Georgia State Patrol for speeding...doing 93 in a 55 zone.
I had a speeding ticket previously as well, which was a 68 in a 55 zone in 2011.
Looking back at it, I know this was incredibly stupid and I hope to learn from it. I know I have to pay a $200 super speeder fine to the state of Georgia but anybody have an idea of what the local fine would be in the city of Sandy Springs, GA? I'm supposed to appear in court on July 3, 2013 and I wonder if the judge will cut me any slack at all. I wonder if being an honor student/president's list in college, etc will help at all? What would you say/do?

Did you receive a reckless driving ticket?

Jebus. What on earth possessed you to be doing that much over the speed limit?

Step 1. Get radar detector
Step 2. Slow down
Step 3. ????
Step 4. Profit

kejobe 05-28-2013 06:00 PM

Slow down. No more problem. Seeing as though it's your 2nd one, I doubt you'll get any slack. Good luck.

nobody ever listens to me when i tell them to carry an empty bottle of laxative milk

speeding tickets can be downgraded to some other sort of weird driving ticket that amounts to 500 bucks and 0 points. they want your money, give them what they want.

I really don't have a good excuse, it's grave immaturity on my part. It's time to grow up. I'm very worried about insurance and fines :(

I got a ticket for passing on the right while going 85 in a 65 and got a $375 fine. Plead not guilty and it was dropped to $60. I'm in CT and that was my first speeding ticket, though. Good luck.

Shouldn't you just get an attorney and make the ticket go away?

You're local. You're an idiot. There's no excuse for that kind of speed.

I hope they yank your license. I really do.

GDubois 05-28-2013 06:06 PM

I got pulled over for doing 53 in a 35 a few months ago, and got a warning. I don't take that road much anymore because it is way to easy to speed. The cop was right at the bottom of the overpass.

Nerdy46 05-28-2013 06:10 PM

Pay the fine, learn the lesson. Slow down.

By no means am I saying what I did was not wrong so those who wish to post negative comments....please don't.

I was wondering if it makes sense getting an attorney or not...mostly because I'm strapped for cash this month. If I'm not mistaken (ill have to check the policy) but I believe my Nationwide insurance policy allows 1 at fault accident and ticket every 6 months...or maybe it's 1 year so the points on my record are a concern but not as large as the fine I will have to pay.

plead not guilty and ask for a 2 month delay

Are there any downsides to pleading not guilty? Isn't this a pretty clear cut case?

Thank you. I've already seen that, I tried calling the Sandy Springs court but they just said that they couldn't tell me any specifics until the court date.

No, it was a "speeding in excess of maximum limits" ticket.

There's no such thing as a "clear cut case".

I can give you a lot of reasons to plead Not guilty.

1) The officer might be a "No Show", if you plead Not guilty you walk.

2) The officer may have lost his notes, again you walk.

3) Maybe you come up with a "plausible" reason for speeding at that moment.
Your ticket might be greatly reduced or you may be found not guilty.

Remember, you are Not guilty until the judge says you are.
