There's more than one failing mode for the regulator. In my case the crimped lugs on the cable had failed so the glass brackets were slipping. Zip tie does not fix that problem.

Yes. Having valve stem oil seals on your lifters is at least part of the problem. Haven't listened to the videos but comments on bottom end knocks are worrying.
