Yes E46 has immobilizer

There is a chip inside the E46 key, programmed to your car, which deactivates the immobilizer when in the ignition.

All vert owners should check this. On my batwings, 4 of the 6 eyelets were broken and bits of plastic missing. Luckily, the rope had not worked its way out.
