Good news!!!

The noise was a loose pulley! When I did the ghetto procedure of removing the fan clutch (large wrench and screwdriver) caused one bolt to loosen and eventually fall off!

I replaced my oil filter housing gasket and degreased the engine. I thought I sprayed it down enough but my engine is loud at idle, not so before.

Hi,

They do not turn on at all. "bulb out" indicator on dash when I turn them on. Some times the indicator on the dash is on even when the lights are off (daytime), but not always.

It was easy!

Surprisingly so...with my auto 2001 330i. Taking the fan off was just a large screwdriver and slim 32mm and pop. What took the longest was to figure the belt routing because we took it off so fast...

...my fan is directly attached to the pulley unlike the pictures. The shroud is not a fan combo and hung up on the fan.
