Strangely, I was going through the fix threads, and followed someone's temporary fix to pull the knob off. Once I did that, I was able to set the metal piece back in, and now it's working again....

Well that's why I did the test with my foot off the accelerator completely for several seconds, then depress the clutch, the existing RPM will linger. So it has to do with clutch engagement IMO.

Finally had a cooling system overhaul done. Total cost was around $970. Everything replaced except the expansion tank mounting plate.

Super glad I have been OCD since I bought the car last year...
