Thanks a lot mtopol01. I think I understand now. I bought the car CPO at 18k miles, and they had done Insp I and reset it then. Might be why.

Don't know about cost yet.

When did you have Inspection II done?

My service indicator is indicating an "inspection" in 5000 miles or so, the car is a 2002 with 34,000mi on it. Is this "Inspection II"?

In Seattle, you probably could have gotten $36k-$38k. In some more expensive cities, even more. Depends a lot on condition too. A lot of M3's are absolutely perfect.

I don't know about your trade-in, but this is an OK price. Make sure it has had Inspection II done. I would also check brake and clutch wear. Mileage is average for a 2002.

brake dust shields have to go - cut 'em off?

I've had ongoing noise from these things. Have bent them back from the rotors 5X, each time up on a lift with a pry bar. They still make a scraping sound. My service advisor (who is excellent,...

what's up with debadging in general?

I always thought this was weird. Is it just a way for lesser models to pretend they're better? An indication of mods? If so, what do you need to qualify as a minimum?

I, for one, would never...

Check brakes, have the rotor thicknesses checked. If they haven't been done yet you could be close to a brake job, which is multi-$k. Tires obviously.
