I have that smell too. If the car isn't driven for a while, upon opening the door, it smells weird. Kind of like crayons, a weird combination of plastics and mold or something...

I don't see why they wouldn't fit. Someone on here built an M3 E46 Sedan, and he used the coupe headlights. I think they'll fit. Find a friend who has a coupe whom you can take a turn signal housing...

Plastidip is a cheap alternative but it's not permanent. After some time you're going to have to reapply a coat or two and as it ages, you can start to see gray cloud-like spots coming up in the coat.
