I assume they just stuff them under the edge of the A-pillar. But I never looked into it since I don't like the idea.

My GC's have allen socket head bolts that I loosen and spin the collar, usually by hand after loosening the siezed fronts... no spanners required.

I hate NOT having an armrest. One of the first "mods" I do to all of my vehicles if they come without. I cannot stand not being comfortable while driving.

Everyone swears by "Auto Elite" or "Stock or Modified", I cannot attest to either yet, but Auto Elite's estimate for my car was very resonable for a full respray
