I've never seen an E46 after a hard frontal crash. My guess is the engine is designed to break loose and go under the car.

I've never tried to break into my bmw. I'm surprised aaa could not. I think if you push the unlock button, then pull on the door handle twice the door should open. It might be easier doing this...

The latch on mine was broken. For now I just have it taped closed. Don't know if I'll rig a different latch, or just replace the whole thing. Leaning toward the latter.
