If you're a mechanic, you know how to do your own PPI. If the rebuild was done right, the price seems OK. It was probably a top-end rebuild if it was do to an overheat.

A properly maintained BMW can last a long time. But maintenance does get more expensive as the car gets older, stuff wears out and needs replacement or overhaul.
