I would definately replace the water pump! I'm not totally sure what the debris is in you system but it could very well be bits of the water pump impeller. You don't want larger chunks of it...

Looking back the mistake I made was to assume that since I replaced my water pump a couple years earlier it could no longer be the culprit.

The heat issue was a faulty water pump and thermostat, that did not give any indication of fault on the gauge, perhaps monitoring the actual temps with the gauge cluster trick showed some indication...
